US government shutdown: Barack Obama is presiding over the end of America's superpower status
The Telegraph ^ | 10/1/2013 | Con Coughlin

For a country that is supposed to be the most powerful in the world, the fact that Americans have today woken up  to find large swathes of their nation closed for business is humiliating.

Thanks to President Barack Obama obduracy over his flagship healthcare policy, Democrats and Republicans have failed to reach agreement in Congress on the federal budget, forcing the US Government to close down for the first time in 17 years, with around 700,000 federal workers being placed on indefinite leave.

(snip)

There was a time not so long ago when the world looked to America for both political and economic leadership. But now that can no longer be taken for granted thanks to Mr Obama's inability to provide decisive leadership on either front.

Republicans rightly argue that by pressing ahead with Obamacare before the implications of the programme have been properly assessed risks adding to America's debt mountain at a time when the American economy is still recovering from the biggest economic crisis in recent history.

The emergence of Russia, meanwhile, as the main power broker in the Syria crisis has severely damaged America's standing as a major global player.

In short, the longer the Obama presidency continues, the more America's status as a superpower ebbs away.

Once again, the foreign press nails it while the DNC press flails about national park closures.

I think that if Obama were credited with ending America as superpower that he would secretly rejoice in his success. This is the wet dream of every statist liberal.

They even squeeze in a seldom used word, "obduracy."

In the case of destroying America, one can honestly say that in this instance and in this instance only, he is not leading from behind.

He is applying RESET, SOFTPOWER and Carteresque policies to the point that even America's enemies are (joyfully) gasping at the pace of national suicide.

...when the American economy is still recovering from the biggest economic crisis in recent history

I didn't know it was recovering. All I see are bubbles. Allowing Obamacare through may be just what we need to pop those bubbles.

Ande he’s proud to do so. He believes America must be punished for its historical guilt (for everything) and he is seeing that he does his part.

Honestly, the shutdown is bad and will be blamed on the GOP.

To much, to late, to change anything. The media in this country is on Obama’s side, and most people get their information from the media.

The right time to fight was before the Obamacare bill passed. Now we will see interviews of the people whose employers have dumped health care coverage, but can’t get into the exchanges because of the shut down.

This whole thing was badly timed.

As the world turns away from the US the day of the USD replaced by IMF SDRs as the world’s reserve currency hastens. When that happens prices inflate 35% overnight. Followed by >20% interest rates and hyper inflation. This is their plan for the debt. Monthly benefits will remain unchanged. Eventually a month’s EBT will buy only a gallon of milk and loaf of bread.

Ummm, if he’s in charge and the Dems hold the senate how is it Republicans’ fault? Eventually people will ‘get it’. I just hope house Rs hold to the hard line. Within two weeks even the press will turn on the Dems.
