Open for Business: Gov't to Erect $98,670 Outhouse ( Alaska )
CNS News ^ | October 1, 2013 | Eric Scheiner

The Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently paid $98,670 for the purchase and installation of an outhouse at the Swede Park Trail Head in Alaska.

The purchase includes a single-vault Romtec 1011 "Aspen Single" prefabricated waterless toilet and its installation at the parking area for the trail head.

...

The Oregon based company Romtec lists the "Aspen Single" model on its website for “as low as $9,999”, but the BLM says the price they paid likely includes shipping to Alaska.

...

The $98,670 contract does not include the pumping out and maintenance of the facility. Those issues are addressed in a separate contract.

I once stopped in a roadside outhouse in Death Vally at some celebrated place in the very flat bottom....Pearl something? Blue something...I forget....

Anyway, a real salt, borax and other mineral flat that had pretty colors...they dug a hole 20-30 ft. deep and put a shack over it....you could only stay in there long enough to take whiz. Any longer and the chemicals and bodily issue would literally knock you out.

In other news BLM has announced that trail use fees are going to increase this year due to rises in costs to maintain trails.

LOL! The old boy who built that to put out in front of his business in Tucumcari would have sold one like it to them a heck of a lot cheaper and thrown in the sign for free.

Now that’s a crapper for the ages— does it include bronze doors? For that kind of money, I expect a marble frieze showing us Emperor Obama smiting the Tea Party barbarians, etc.

That's nothing. In August, Switzerland had the grand unveiling of it's nine $2.2 million government built drive-in prostitution stalls. Each one of these cost taxpayers $250,000.

I’m assuming that it’s a composting toilet similar to many in parks on the Rockies. Just another racket for making a particularly influential constituent really fat.
