Patrick: 4,000 state workers pay in limbo due to shutdown

Gov. Patrick slammed the government shutdown today and House Republicans, saying Massachusetts will suffer while politicians hold the government hostage.

Along with national parks and monuments, 22 Head Start programs in the state will close because of the shutdown and the payment status of 4,000 state workers who are paid in whole or in part by federal grants is up in the air, Patrick said.

“Those kids are out while the minority and the House like everything about Obamacare, actually, except the Obama part — but want to shut down the government,” he said

The governor said the state would determine the short-term future of those 4, 000 workers “soon”.

Good. Head Start is an unbelievable waste of money that should be permanently shut down, and if Massachusetts wants those 4000 workers they're going to have to pay 'em.

I was never liberal. In fact I don’t think my mother was ever truly liberal.

She has said that she went into it hoping to do some good but found that “agenda” was the real goal of HS.

Not gonna stop the far leftists from howling about how Head Start teachers and other workers could possibly lose their pay, or from tugging at American heartstrings going on about how poor, single working mothers are gonna lose all their benefits and their kids won’t be able to go to school or even eat all because of the Republicans.

And since much of the American public will totally buy it, conservatives have to counter it on a grassroots level. Who can we rely on to do it for us? Noone.

Federal funding to states is the main reason for the recent leftward direction of the Republican Party. Federal funding to states should be stopped.

Maybe state government should fund their own workers with their own tax revenues.”

We should NEVER, EVER be funding state employees with Federal dollars. Those kids are far better off without any Head Start program. If parents want pre-school for their kiddos they should pay for it themselves.

FedGov about 100x times more culpable (they can print money) than state and county governments except in liberal sleaze states such as NY, Maryland, Massachusetts and California

You Sir...or Ma'am as the case may be, have hit the proverbial nail on the haid.

State funding for state programs, along with State CONTROL, is what the Founding Fathers had in their minds when they created this thing known as The United States of America.
