A looming federal government shutdown is slated to take effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka released the following statement on the House Republicans' hostage taking:
As of today, it is clear that the Republican Party and the Tea Party have become one and the same when it comes to federal fiscal policy. House Republicans have decided that they will shut down critical public services, stiff public servants, hold Americas credit rating hostage and kill off jobs because they are upset that President Obama decisively defeated Mitt Romney last November. That some Republicans are participating in this fiasco against their better judgment does not obscure their responsibility. All responsible voices must speak and act against policy making by hostage taking.
Its bad enough that Republicans intellectually dishonest austerity policies have starved the United States of the public investment necessary for shared prosperity in the future. Sequester was and remains a complicated name for a disastrous policy. But somehow Republicans have managed to go from pushing irresponsible policies to something even worse.
Shutting down the government would weaken demand, reduce employment and roil markets. Punishing federal workers and taxpayers to prove a point is a temper tantrum worthy of a four year old, not a policy choice of a responsible political party.
We stand with President Obama as he rejects unequivocally all Republican hostage taking. And we agree with the president that it would be a disastrous precedent for our democracy if we have any negotiations over the debt ceiling.
This is the moment for working people to bring pressure on behalf of a shared, popular and responsible agenda. Repeal the job-killing sequester. Reject any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. Protect food aid for the poor. And create jobs and raise hundreds of billions of dollars to invest in our future by ending all tax subsidies for outsourcing.
The deck has been stacked from the beginning...
I for one was never fooled for a second into thinking these pigs were against Obama on Obamacare.
I knew there is a phrase for what 0bama and Reid are doing
Wildcat Strike
*Dirty Rotten Pinko Communist B*st*rd
There ain’t nothing PINK about that commie SOB. He’s full red to the core.
how can this idiot talk when his mouth is far up Odumbo’s ass?
I agree with Trunka, except I only credited both Obama and Reid with being 2 years old.
Boehner was maybe mid 20’s +/- .
Temper tantrum/4 year old hissy fit cause someone didn’t get their way? Suits king hussein to a “T”. Next he’ll be stamping his wittle footsies. Waaaa! Waaaa!
I agree, Reid and Obama are having temper tantrums. However, not worthy of a 4 year old, more like a 2 year old. After all they are the ones shutting down government..
Is that applicable to the Pres__dent too ?
Is that applicable to Harry Reid Too ??
Two hissey-fits to avoid any type of reconcilation ?
..and you call who " childish " ??
May more four year olds throw a tantrum, if it keeps us in freedom and out of the third world realm.
Yep, it is pretty immature of the Dems to continually turn down CRs and claim that the other side won’t compromise. Isn’t it?
Obamacare is TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
Obamacare has nothing to do with care, health or medical treatment.
Obamacare has everything to do with a mandatory insurance that everyone must buy at the point of the Federal gun.
Obamacare Medical Insurance premiums are under the control of the IRS.
These insurance premiums can be raised every year by the IRS with no involvement by Congress.
Thus, all the present and future Democrat rulers have to do is tell the IRS how much taxpayer dollars need to be forcefully extracted from the taxpayers, and the IRS will extract the money for them.
Hence, Obamacare Insurance is taxation without representation that Traitor John Roberts of THE NINE SUPREMES has ruled it to be above the control of the US Congress, and it will stay until Obamacare is ABOLISHED!
Trumka???
You mean the sleaze that orchestrated all the unbelievable crap in Wisconsin???
Like having the legislature slink away to Illinois?
Like hiring sub human trash to occupy the state house?
Him talking about temper tantrums?
Disgusting. May he burn in hell.
BTTT
But shutting down a business or an industry with a strike is mature.
Was in UMW in mid late seventies, Trumka was a big thug then and he ain’t changed. Trumka was in 30’s then, I guess, he and a 60 year old guy were running for president of UMW. Trumka and 3 or 4 thugs from the same mold shoved the opponent and supporters off the stage. Trumka won. Just shows coal miners are tuff but not to smart. Somebody could have saved the world a lot of trouble that night.
The unions have been promised waivers as soon as the funding is passed and the debt limit is increased.
