Lawmakers on Capitol Hill do not seem any closer to an agreement that would end the government shutdown.
On Tuesday, when veterans came to the World War II Memorial only to discover it had been barricaded because of the shutdown, they moved the blockade, then continued on to pay their respects.
But the memorial is a federal site in a public space. According to the National World War II Memorial website, "The memorial is operated by the National Park Service and is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
Why was there a need for barricades in the first place?
"Park Service did not want to barricade these, but unfortunately we have been directed, because of the lack of appropriations ...

Sure. Right now would be open season for grave diggers and other types of adventures in our lands. I’m sure there will be many a story about such problems once the gov’t is back in ‘operation’.
Pure theater. Of course there is absolutely NO need to barricade such places. Not one penny is expended by leaving them open.
Come to think of it, where does the money come from to pay all the cops who put up the barricades?
Obama admin. knew about WWII veterans request and rejected it

We got the heads up that they will be barricaded and specifically asked for an exception for these heroes, Palazzo told TheDC. We were denied and told, Its a government shutdown, what do you expect? when we contacted the liaison for the White House.
Palazzos office was in touch with the heads of the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior and the Capitol Police. He says all these officials rejected his request to allow the veterans, many of whom are octogenarians and some of whom are in poor health, to attend.

I laughed when I heard about that. These guys went headlong into MG42 fire. I bet they were terrified of “federal” sawhorses in their way.
Touche!
Messing with honored veterans and their memorials is a damn dumb thing to do. Obama and Reid own this.
I just think our side gets wound up pretty tight at times. Not every thing has to be a vile plan.
There are plenty of real vile plans out there...
And these “barricades” will in no way deter a vandal.
Are they closing down the tribute march at the tomb of the unknown soldier?
Speaking of games, I just read that the service academies will not be able to play their football games because of the shutdown. Has that ever happened before, or is this another first for our PINO and the despicable Hagel?
I haven’t heard one Obamatoad in the state controlled “media” whining about the EPA being shut down. NOT ONE! The EPA was shut down, wasn’t it?
These men looked death in the eyes and came back alive, no park ranger could stop them. Really is this a WWII “AMUSEMENT” park? So what if they can’t turn on lights or fountains, etc. isn’t still an open grassy area with monuments, fountain, etc, kind of like a million other parks? It was closed to TRY to make a statement.
Paraphrasing John Candy in Vacation.
“Sorry folks, the JACKA$$ at the gate should have told ya.”
Jake Tapper and his media friends who pretend to be conservative
If they think The WWII Vets are off limits and sacred to the America basher, they had better start figuring things out.
I know that’s too much for me to expect, but, geeze.
A couple years ago I was down at The river with one of these old fellas and his family.
He had an M1 Garand in 30.06 and was a frail old fellow.
You could tell the family was just kinda placating him.
I tossed some targets out into the river for him, and Blammo!
He sent them to an early end.
Heh Heh Heh! He laughed.
“One shot one kill”
I hope I made his day, because he made mine.
What did you want them to do, shrink-wrap the place?
They post signs saying the park is closed. What else did you want them to do?
By posting, they make it clear for the police that if anyone is in there, they aren’t authorized to be there.
It’s not difficult to see the true reason for such a show, and to dismiss it out of hand as you have makes no sense.
The disgusting people we are talking about would not think twice to fire upon a crowd of such veterans if they believed they could pin the blame on their “opponents”.
In days of old, we were basically all on the same side. Those days are long gone.
It’s being barricaded for the same reason the NPS website has been shut down and redirected to the Department of the Interior. It’s just the pukes from the federal government trying to make us think we can’t survive without them.
Spite and a burning hate for whites and America are what motivate Obama and his lackeys.
Okay then, yes the Obama administration wanted to keep veterans out of the park.
There. Feel better.
Look, I think the guy is an evil bastard devil, but there are times when things are not as sinister as they look.
There are reasons to close the place down. It’s not that unreasoned.
