Wood Stove Ban Made Universal
http://freepatriot.org ^ | September 30, 2013

For many years, those of us in the Arctic have been fighting the wood stove ban. The use of PM2.5 particulates has been an issue pursued by local agencies as a way to swipe at those who choose to live beyond the borders of traditional civilization. That attack has now extended to the rest of the United States.

In a stunning move, the Environmental Protection Agency decided to ban most of the operational wood stoves in the U.S.

In those places where there is you, God, and nature, the wood stove has represented that one thing that can sustain. Going after local PM2.5 particulates has been one of many methods to attack those who choose to live independent of government. As Off Grid and American Prepper survival report reveals:

The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.

This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called Burn Wise to try to sway public opinion.

On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scrapped and cannot be resold.

The solution is to wire a micro particulate digester dingus to the side of the stove pipe at least 24 inches above the last bend in the pipe. The particulates problem will be solved.

The digester is made from a 32 oz juice can and is readily attainable. Although a 1 uart PET bottle can be used, it must be replaced frequently. The metal can is far superior.

>> Come and take it

A f*cking woodstove? That gives new meaning to the Battle of Gonzales slogan (1835 Texas Revolution).

We’ve been heating the main room in our Colorado getaway by woodstove for 20 years now. During the year, we fell and split the beetle kill trees. Guess now we’ll just have to wait for a biga$$ wildland fire?

On the other hand, maybe they will take the riches from the west and buy everyone a new gas or electric stove ;)

This would also then apply to a fireplace...same particulates, actually more since a fireplace is not as efficient as a wood stove. (Time for a little civil disobedience I’m thinking in many areas..now where did I out those matches?)

My micro particulate digester dingus fell through the black pipe dingus suspension bracket (rusted through last winter, I guess) and knocked over the thimble.

Wife threw a fit.

With the left pushing the tolerance envelope closer and closer to the breaking point, its looking more and more like no one, even the liberals, will have to guess what it is.

Far better than shutting down the government would be shutting down the power in the beltway. These people have no humility.

What's the point of having a government if they can't control every aspect of your life to match some ignorant bureaucrat's idea of how you should act?
“To be GOVERNED is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. To be GOVERNED is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, counted, taxed, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, authorized, admonished, prevented, forbidden, reformed, corrected, punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be place under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted from, squeezed, hoaxed, robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, hunted down, abused, clubbed, disarmed, bound, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored. That is government; that is its justice; that is its morality."

Laz, I live in a third world country.

Somehow you think that matters. It won't. This is a global push. Millions, perhaps billions, will die. That part may occur after we are long dead, but believe me when I tell you, you will feel the Globalist and Agenda 21 influences before you die.

I have a wonderful ability to sense broad trends. I've been proven right again and again. My ability to predict the short term is almost 100% wrong, but my long term predictions are at about 90% correct.

The only way these initiatives fail to get traction is if there is a major, especially nuclear, war. Even a pandemic plays into the enemies hand.

A lot of my neighbors aren’t going to like this.

Many of them burn wood to help with their heating costs during the winter.

Who will enforce this?

I cannot see our local police force riding around looking for smoke from the chimneys.

State Action - Laws, Fees and Taxes

Colorado
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment posts wood-burning advisories on its website. During red advisories, mandatory residential burning restrictions generally apply to everyone in the 7-county Denver-Boulder metro area below 7,000 feet. There are exceptions for those who use Colorado Phase III (Phase II EPA) certified wood-burning stoves, state-approved pellet stoves, approved masonry heaters or those whose stoves or fireplaces are their primary source of heat.

Idaho
The state of Idaho offers taxpayers who buy new wood stoves, pellet stoves, or natural gas or propane heating units for their residences a tax deduction to replace old, uncertified wood stoves.

Michigan
Michigan’s Model Ordinance for Outdoor and Open Burning (PDF) (21pp, 306K) - contains provisions and optional provisions that Michigan municipalities can “pick and choose” from

Montana
The state of Montana offers an Alternative Energy Systems Credit against income tax liability for the cost of purchasing and installing an energy system in a Montana resident’s principal home that uses “ . . . a low emission wood or biomass combustion device such as a pellet or wood stove.”

Utah
Utah has a “Red Light, Green Light” program to curtail wood-burning along the Wasatch Front during winter inversions. RED: No residential/commercial burning. The Division of Air Quality staff inspect the valleys for smoke coming from chimneys. The staff also investigate complaints made to the Division. Offenders are ticketed, and fines may be levied. First-time offenders face a fine of $25; second-time offenders pay $50 to $140; and third-time offenders face fines from $150 to $299. YELLOW: reduce burning; GREEN (clearing index high): burning allowed.

Washington
The state of Washington has established wood stove emission performance standards that are more stringent than the federal rule. In addition, the state of Washington assesses a flat fee on the sale of every wood-burning device to fund the education of citizens about wood smoke health and air quality impacts and the benefits of cleaner burning wood stoves.

Wisconsin
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Model Ordinance - contains suggestions and options for local governments to regulate open burning at the local level

Vermont
Vermont has compiled a state listing of regulatory action for hydronic heaters.

It’s not that tough to build your own. Most anyone with a welder and a 55 gallon drum can make on in an hour or so.

What’s the difference between a woodstove and a wood burning fireplace? Nothing. Is this more about trees being cut down for burning?
