I was looking at DU - someone was THRILLED to find out their health insurance was FREE - and it was medicare! and said it was the VERY FIRST TIME they ever had insurance? Insane?

The other DU’ers corrected and assumed it was Medicaid but you know you qualify for Medicaid with or without Obamacare - you are either dirt poor and qualify for welfare or you don’t!

Not really. Obamacare includes Expanded Medicaid in states that approved it. Income up to roughly $33,500 for a family of four. Not really "dirt poor" in my neck of the woods.

Medicare?? Only way that could happen is if they just turned 65 or became disabled.

Most likely they just got thrown into the Medicaid pool.

Missouri hasn’t expanded their Medicaid to low income. States that have done so will be in for a rude awakening when federal funding tapers off to help pay for the new consumers on the Medicaid wagon.

Enzi: States should be wary of ‘free’ federal money for Medicaid expansion

Medicaid expansion costs unsustainable

The federal government has a long record of not paying bills it has agreed to cover. The offer of “free” federal funds to cover the costs of state Medicaid expansions won’t be any different says U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.
