'What Are They Going to Do Next? Hang a Drapery Over Mt. Rushmore?'
CNSNews ^

(CNSNews.com) - Government shutdown or not, there's no reason to keep elderly veterans away from the World War II Memorial, says Rep. Louie Gohmer (R-Texas), who was there on Tuesday when a group of 85- to 98-year-olds from entered the barricaded Memorial grounds.

"It is a granite sidewalk -- it's a sidewalk!" Gohmert told Fox News on Wednesday."They (the National Park Service) spent extra money to go find barriers to put up in front of these World War II vets. And I'm wondering what are they going to do next -- hang a drapery over Mt. Rushmore? I mean, this is ridiculous!"

Gohmert questioned what the Obama administration is thinking, to close a memorial "and make these guys suffer."

Covering Rushmore with a drape makes as much sense as blocking off an open air monument. And, yes, bam-bam is doing it to hurt the vets. Maybe the Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington monuments should be off limits, too.

Seems like it is costing the Fed Gov more money to “Make the People Feel the Pain of the Shutdown” instead of simply shutting things down....

This was really stupid on Obama’s part. The Vets are like the pebble in the brook....the ripple seems to go on forever...

A FReeper may correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they are.

Well, the Washington monument is under repair, still, I think. But the others are barricaded.

They probably are. The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are closed and barricaded in Philadelphia. Folks can get a peek at the Bell thru a window in the building.

The National Public Service is probably doing the barricades to save themselves from lawsuits if something happens while none of their rangers are there. (I did read on an FR thread yesterday about the WW II vets that a Park ranger agreed with the vets and didn’t try to impede their progress.)

As per Obama we are in a Government shutdown, except for enrollment of Obamacare which isn’t even funded! I found this article pertaining to the anti-deficiency act of 1870 here is the link if anyone can post this on Freerepublic I would appreciate it. http://www.cnbc.com/id/101078243

There are barricade rental places on the web, but they don't simply tell you the price, you have to ask for a quote. Since they're leasing these to the gummint, I'd be willing to bet they won't say what it's costing us.

Here's one that operates in DeeCee.

When I visited the Lincoln and Jefferson monuments years ago, there was nary a park personnel person in sight. No guards, nothing. You could visit them any time of the day or night.

They don’t seem to have any problems running up bills for the Barry-cade rentals.

If they cover Rushmore with drapes, how will Team America launch?

Independence Hall I can understand, but not the huge open air monuments.

They sure won't put a tarp over the Grand Canyon or the Giant Sequoias.
