At Marion Park on Capitol Hill, two fence gates were chained closed, but one was not, and a group of children played inside.
At the Korean War Veterans Memorial, on the Mall, the entrance was blocked with barricades, but visitors just walked around the barriers and entered.
At the closed-off National World War II Memorial, two days of assaults by veterans prompted the National Park Service to announce that they had the legal right to be there and would not be barred in the future.
Across federal Washington on Wednesday, the government shutdown was leaking badly partly as a result of citizen contrarians, war veterans, politicians and the difficulty of enforcement by the National Park Service....

Barry and President Valerie Jerrett blink.
It took more people to cover it up, tape it up, and barricade it than it would have to get a college intern to give them a tour, and a security guard to stand by in case of medical emergency.
No ticket takers, maybe a head counter.
It was an Honor Flight group.
What did BO think they’d need a security guard in case these men and their entourage decided to trash the place? Or spray paint it?
I mean his contempt just blinds him.
Not good enough.
The Honor Flights were allowed - BUT, the general public was barred since the Obama Admin. reasoned that they didn’t have any 1st Amendment assembly rights ...
Arrest me and cite the portion of federal law that gives you the slightest authority to close a national park ‘because you said so.’ You can’t apply trespassing without having the actual authority to bar someone entry. NPS might even try to wiggle through loopholes by stating that they’ve simply changed the hours of operation to none; but federal law REQUIRES national parks to be open absent actual emergencies or dangers to the public, and an overflowing trash can, much to the dismay of the NIH, isn’t a public health hazard of significant level.
Why just veterans? I CONTRIBUTED TO HELP BUILD THAT MEMORIAL FOR THE VETS! How can I be denied except to admit we are now living under a dictatorship that has taken over our country?
Are they screwing the 'NAM vets?
These ones are not in wheel chairs and can still give a good fight. Anyone know if they are pulling the bullshit over across town from the WWII Memorial?
Should have caveated here just now that a number of ‘Nam vets are in fact disabled and unable to walk. But meant in comparison with their WWII brothers, they physically, numbers wise, can confront the jackboots a bit more effectively. I think of all the support they will get from the motorcyclists across the land as well, if Barry and Jarrett try to close the Vietnam War Memorial to spitefully “make the Republican Shutdown painful.”
“assaults by veterans”????
I think it was paid for with private money. How Obama thinks he can do things like this is astounding.
I would have run the focus groups for free, re how the real people felt over this latest Nazi action by Herr Obozo.
The arrogance of Herr Obozo and his SS troopers continues to amaze so many of us.
His reprehensive actions re closing the WWII memorial is another prime example of the new Nazis in charge.
Tough guy Hairy Reed should go stop those anarchists.
Good one and while I appreciate our veterans, they’re citizens too. We don’t need Obama creating a special class that gets access when others don’t. These guys didn’t kick Hitler and his Nazis into the dirt just to come home to this garbage.
Apparantly the Park Police and Rangers at Korea and Vietnam have the barricades up, but aren’t doing a damn thing about people who are crossing them.
And for the record, I’ve never met a NPS Ranger I didn’t like. Looking the other way like they are just reinforces my opinion of them.

FYI, I saw that “live” picture posted here on FR repeatedly yesterday morning ....
