DC attacker was a single mom with ‘every reason to live’
NY Post ^ | 10/3/13 | Jennifer Bain

Friends and former Brooklyn neighbors recalled Miriam Carey as a hardworking single mother who had every reason to live.

“She had everything going for her,” said Yolanda Napoleon, 40. “A beautiful baby, a man helping her with her baby, a job making 100k per year. Her child was her everything.”

Carey, 34, was a dental hygienist who was licensed in both New York and Connecticut. She lived in Brooklyn as recently as 2005 and had a condo in Stamford, Conn.

Friends, who grew up with her and her four sisters on Stanley Avenue in Brooklyn, were mystified about how Carey’s life came to end in a fiery confrontation with several police and Secret Service agents

Gee, thanks.
Like Dear old Dad always said, “Getting old beats the alternative.”

Her second mistake was hitting the gas pedal.

The headline reminds me of “Student, Mother, Dancer” or however the hell it went.

What if she jumped out if the car to tell the police not to shoot because she had her baby in the car? The trigger happy cops might have killed a mother who was trying to protect her baby after a car accident. The story doesn't make sense to me.

I’ve seen a coupled of edits on the video. One of the early videos shows the cops chasing here BEFORE she tries to turn left and his the barrier. Why were they chasing her?

Yeah, she made plenty of mistakes, alright.
You know, I am sitting here shaking my head at all the, "innocent mom who panicked" apologists posting here. It's weird. It's like people migrated over here to Free Republic from 'The View' audience. That woman ended up dead because of her own actions. Period. Even if she was gunned down by trigger-happy cops, she was the one who put herself in a position to get gunned down by trigger-happy cops.

“This is so strange. I can’t believe they just shot her.”

We have at least two people in this administration who think the law doesn’t apply to them or their actions. Nothing is out of bounds with OBummer and Holder in their positions.

Any idea what that *protester’s* sign says?

I think it says "The end is near". ;)

I hope not, but my instinct is telling me that is exactly what happened.

BBC has other different details:

“The incident began at 14:12 local time (18:12 GMT) when a suspect in a black Infiniti sedan attempted to bypass fencing at the outer perimeter of the White House, police said.

The suspect fled the scene and led officers on a high-speed chase through Washington DC toward the US Capitol.

The driver, later identified as a woman by authorities,
then attempted to bypass barriers along the western front lawn of the Capitol, where the Senate and House of Representatives sit.”

I checked the average salary of dental hygienists in the Stamford area—$91,000/yr.

Remember that the cost of living up there is through the ceiling.

Your narrative was exactly what I thought when I heard the press conference at 1800; out of towner, got lost, panicked, fight or flight response kicked in, chose flight. It may not seem rational to armchair quarterbacks, but people do funny things when they are a hair trigger away from death, especially when they are protecting their children.

I have always seen spike-stops, or stop-stips but I have never seen “shooting out the tires” with hand guns in real life.

Maybe its done. Who has a brother in some state patrol and can ask?

Per article - But one neighbor says “it was clear there were mental issues in the family”. This may be true, but it made me think, "What would my neighbors say if this happened to me? Nearly all would say I was a great neighbor that did her best to help others in the neighborhood. One house would say, "She obviously has mental problems. We've had trouble with her in the past." That particular house that consists of two lesbians that yank down my political signs and give me the finger every time we drive by. Just this morning both my husband and I found literal fruitcakes in the driver seats of both his truck and my car. To make a long story short, one neighbor saying her family has mental issues doesn't necessarily make it true.
