[a snip] "..... Reports that Boehner could lean heavily on Democrats had unnerved some conservative Republicans who have often battled their Speaker, but GOP Rep. Tim Huelskamp (Kan.) left the meeting on Friday saying his conference was incredibly unified.
The Speakers message to the rank-and-file, according to a lawmaker in the room, was to just relax about any stories that he might buck conservatives and strike the sort of deal that would leave many of them unhappy.
I was opposed to shutting the government down -- that's no secret, Boehner told the conference. I'm opposed to defaulting on the debt -- that's no secret.
Following the meeting, it seemed that Boehners message had helped rally both conservatives and more centrist parts of the GOP conference to his side.
Huelskamp, who lost his committee assignments for not voting with this party, said the GOP is more unified since I've been here in 2 years and 9 months......................

He is in the rear, as usual.
Barrycade is horrible, but I’m so glad that idiot never made it to the White House!
Exactly it’s David vs. Goliath (or Gideon vs. the Philistines).
Ted Cruz David vs. the God-Blasphemer, the Giant Obama!
No less than our Republican form of government hangs in the hands of the Speaker right now. If he cave, the Executive Branch usurps the power of the purse and government of the people, by the people, and for the people is a memory.
Barrycade is horrible, but Im so glad that idiot never made it to the White House!
Me too, but at least we know he's a citizen. A turn coat yes, but a citizen.
Miracles Happen ... Been There Seen Them. May It Be!
YOU, are oh so right. Trusting Boehner, Cantor and Paul Ryan at this juncture is fools gold!
NONE of these have earned trust by their own hand, or their own feet.
They have, everyone of them, had to have a boot in their butt every. single. step. of the way. Drug kicking and screaming to the side of conservative principles is no trust builder, here.
GOP thwarts Dem move to force vote on clean spending bill "House Republicans on Friday stood firm against a move by Democrats to call up the Senate's continuing resolution funding the government.
The vote came on the fourth day of the government shutdown, and is an indication the House GOP remains united in its effort to press ahead with smaller spending bills for the next several days.................."
LOL! You made me laugh out loud. Splendid inquiry you made, there. Thanks.
I hope they stay united. They are on the right track. The longer the nonessential part of government remains unfunded and shutdown, the less it will be missed. That’s what the dems are afraid of.
Bump!
Perhaps having Harry Reid publicly stab him in the back (with the released embarrassing emails), has given the Speaker on new perspective on the way things currently “work” up on the Hill.
