Number, cost of Obamacare plans may surprise
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 10-3-2013 | Scott Powers, Staff Writer

Once people start checking out the health-insurance policies available under the Affordable Care Act, they may be in for two big surprises.

The first may come as they realize how many choices they have: People in Orange, Lake and Osceola counties can pick from up to 98 different plans, from four companies each offering multiple levels of coverage. Seminole offers 158.

"You hit the button, and 80 or 90 or 100 plans jump out, and you have no idea what to do," said Don Kirkendall of AffordableOne Insurance in Winter Park.

The second will come from the retail price — which buyers will see before they can calculate the federal subsidies that most purchasers will be eligible to take. For example, an Orlando family of four with income of $42,000 would show a premium of $893 a month for basic coverage — though federal subsidies will bring that down to $185 a month.

"Yeah, there's a bit of sticker shock coming down the pike," said independent insurance broker Leslie Glogau of Maitland, spokeswoman for the Central Florida Association of Health Underwriters.

Of those who do enroll, I suspect a lot of them are going to lie about their income in order to maximum the Federal subsidy. I wonder how much of an enforcement mechanism there will be against Obama’s voting base?

Really? My current employer offered a dozen different plans before - now they offer three.

And 'sticker shock' somehow doesn't adequately describe my reaction to their cost. My healthcare policy will now annually cost about one half of what my mortgage costs me.

Bullshit, "journalist". The cost is still $893 a month. I don't care what the "subsidies" make the direct out of pocket cost...

Are there NO journalists who know economics???????

There’s no way they can insure a family of four for $185.00 per month. The initial price of $893.00 for only basic coverage is more like it

What this means, is that we will now be subsidizing families in to the higher middle income groups. I do think it takes more salary to consider someone in a higher middle-class income group, but here they are subsidized to the tune of 79.3%.

This family’s policy will be underwritten by the taxpayers to the tune of $708.00 per month.

Wait until the wealthy find out how much they’re going to be taxed to pay for this. We’re going to see upper class flight from the nation.

What will be left will look something like California, where this was executed with perfection.

White middle class up moves out. Poor foreign nationals move in. Unions are put in the cat-bird seat to run the place. And wallah..., you’ve got your permanent Leftard nation.

..enforcement mechanism...”

From what I understand, everyone will be on their honor. Of course, if you receive a W-2 or 1099 there would be a means for IRS to verify income. But 47 percent of the people don’t pay income tax and a whole lot of those are probably part of the cash only underground. So cash payments only and no checking or interest bearing checking account, how is the IRS going to check?

There is no consistent check for food stamps, housing subsidy, medicaid, etc. eligibility so don’t expect this to be any different unless cash is eliminated.

What is the deductible??!! You trade for high deductibles for lower monthly premiums. That family will learn as they get sick the first $6000 in medical bills come from them before the benefits kick in! Many working middle class/poor live paycheck to paycheck.

Thanks, then this is just anther massive fraud mechanism to transfer the dwindling wealth of the US to Obama's taker base. I wonder if the ACORN like navigators are advising with a wink and a nod to lie about income, if any? A sting by James O'Keefe might be in order.

VA, Affordable Care Act and You

What is the Affordable Care Act?

The Affordable Care Act, also known as the health care law, was created to expand access to coverage, control health care costs and improve health care quality and care coordination. The health care law does not change VA health benefits or Veterans’ out-of-pocket costs.

Three things you should know:
1 VA wants all Veterans to receive health care that improves their health and well-being.
2 If you are enrolled in VA health care, you don’t need to take additional steps to meet the health care law coverage standards. The health care law does not change VA health benefits or Veterans’ out-of-pocket costs.
3 If you are not enrolled in VA health care, you can apply at any time.

Veterans Enrolled in VA Health Care

The good news is that Veterans enrolled in VA health care programs have health coverage that meets the new health care law’s standard. You do not have to take any additional steps to have health coverage. Read more if enrolled…

Veterans Not Enrolled in VA Health Care

Veterans not currently enrolled in VA health care program can apply for enrollment at any time. Read more about enrolling…

Family Members

VA offers health care benefits for certain family members of Veterans through programs such as the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) and the Spina Bifida program. Read more about VA family programs…

Your family members who are not enrolled in a VA health care program should use the Marketplace to get coverage.

Additional Health Care Law Information

We understand you may have questions about the health care law and how it might affect you and your family. We compiled basic information about the health care law to help you make informed decisions about your health care. Let us know if you have questions regarding the health care law and your VA health care at 1-877-222-VETS (8387). After all, ensuring you receive quality health care is not just our obligation, it’s also our privilege.
