Health Care Costs in New Jersey

Posted on 10/05/2013 5:59:43 AM PDT by fedupjohn

Last May I started a business and I checked on Health Insurance for myself.

1. I live in New Jersey
2. 56 yr male non-tobacco user

In May 2013 - Basic & Essential $108.00 per month (Not Bad)
In Oct 2013 - Basic & Essential $436.88 per month (Disgusting)

Now is fairness I went to the estimation page to check out Federal Subsidies’.
Based on a $40,000 a year income the subsidies will lower that down to approx. $223.00 per month.

Let's review,

A. Federal Government Does Nothing..................My Cost $108.00
B. Federal Government Does Something..............My Cost $436.00
C. Federal Government Gives Me Tax A Break.....My Cost $223.00

So my rates are double because of "The Affordable Care Act" ?

WHAT A JOKE!

I just sent this to my Congressman Frank Pallone(D) NJ.

I'll post his response if and when I actually get one!

Your rates double because of all the people anticipated to use this program to get expensive HEALTH CARE instead of health insurance. This program fundamentally changes what “health insurance” in America is all about.

Double the price. I suspect half the quality. And you have the added ‘benefit’ of extra paperwork!

That's why insurance should only be for catastrophic illnesses and accidents with a deductible in the thousands of dollars. People paying for the other things themselves is what will keep costs down.

It started getting out of control when the old catastrophic health insurance policies were replaced with HMOs.

This is from Economics 101...you can't in an economically feasible way insure against "sure things" happening.

“I just sent this to my Congressman Frank Pallone(D) NJ.

I don’t think you understand. Before the Affordable Care Act you were only paying for insurance for yourself, the cost of which was based on risk you represented to the company carrying the insurance. Now you’re paying the cost of everybody based not on risk, but on paying for all of the otherwise uninsurable people with pre-existing conditions as well as people who are at end-of-life and will use a million dollars “worth” (cost, rather than worth) of insurance in their final 6 months. Considering how much else you’re “volunteering” to pay for your cost is actually fairly low.

When people complain I tell them to be grateful because now Obama can use their money to pay the medical expenses of people less fortunate than themselves.

The ACA was never about you. It was about everybody else, who will now vote Democrat to keep your gravy pouring in.

Any difference in the deductible or Co-pay?

WHAT A JOKE!

But now all the mammograms, birth control pills and abortions you could possibly want will be free!!!!

(I haven't seen much coverage of the "By 2014 the elimination of both lifetime and annual limits" aspect of Obamacare. Insurance 101/risk management tells me that this is an impossible -- or nearly impossible -- thing to do. Infinite risk, limited premium income -- what can possibly go wrong? Unless you can print money, like the gov't can. I realize that Rush and many others are convinced that Obamacare is just a Trojan horse for single payer health care. I just didn't realize that it was likely to happen so soon.)

Its designed to create confusion, mass outrage and frustration so they can deconstruct America and then offer a solution, a socialist plan.
Ignore it completely.

What many people don’t realize is that - if we had that type of system, where insurance was for catastrophic circumstances, and they paid *normal* care out-of-pocket - they’d end up paying much, much less over time.

We should also be able to get BIDS on healthcare. It absolutely amazes me that hospitals and doctors won’t quote you what they think an operation is going to cost. I understand that complications could increase the price, but in many cases, a hospital won’t tell you a thing about the cost ahead of time for the procedure if there are no complications. That’s BS.

My experience has been that prices go down when I ask for the cash price, no insurance involved. I have seen reductions as great as 30%.

we should also be able to get bids...

I don't have dental insurance. I get bids and I get choices for therapies. When I agree to a price, there's always something you sign that says there could be unexpected expenses. When that does happen, they aren't extravagent and they're explained.

The other thing is kind of funny. I don't use pharmaceuticals, and when I refuse them they always think it's the expense. So they give me killer mouthwashes and pain killers for free or nearly free. I guess they're trying to get me hooked on narcotics.

My painkiller of choice....cheap blackberry brandy. Drink enough of that stuff, and you won't know whether you had pain or not.
