Families throw off the cones at Badlands National Park in South Dakota

Tax-paying, hard-working families aren’t letting White House shutdown politics stop them from enjoying America’s beauty. They’re defying the orange cones at Mount Rushmore. They’re breaching the barrycades at Zion National Park. And now, the Badlands of South Dakota.

Noelle Bruno tweets that she and her family made it through Mount Rushmore despite the White House obstacles:

You know, you are posting at the wrong site. Try the Democrat Underground. The “national parks” belong to us not the government. The people should force them open.

There has never been an autumn stretch as beautiful as this has been for enjoying hiking and cycling along that trail. I would hope the people keep using the trail. It's certainly impossible to close off the whole canal route.

The symbolism of what Obama is doing is powerful. That path along the Cuyahoga River was used by escaped slaves who wanted to get to Canada across Lake Erie. Most couldn't get across so that east side of Cleveland got the starts of its massive black population. That's right folks. Obama is trying to close the very trail that meant freedom from slavery for so many blacks!

The screaming from the black community is deafingly....nonexistant.

If the parks are left wide open, there’s nothing to prevent people from going in and vandalizing the place.....Apparently, there was nothing to protect the Lincoln Memorial from being vandalized about two months ago (along with two or three others)when the goobermint was in full throttle.

“You forgot a /sarc tag after that, right? “

I don’t think so. I suspect he’s a plant from the DU, or he’s just a borg who will follow Obama no matter what he does. We can be gratified that he was not alive during the Revolutionary War, because with his attitude, the British would have won.

We can be gratified that he was not alive during the Revolutionary War,...Or we would have had to waste another pewter ball.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude
better than the animating contest of freedom,
go home from us in peace.
We ask not your counsels or your arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.
May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The government doesn’t make money to buy/own anything. They get the money from We the People. The parks, the memorials, etc. belong to those millions who pay taxes, not to the government. We have every right to visit them without interference from the Feds. Go, America!

And there is nothing to prevent it any other time. The Lincoln memorial was vandalized before the shutdown. Your argument is invalid.

You are missing the point, it isnt even the parks, it is the roads, the streets, the PRIVATE property that they are shutting down.

The evicted an elderly couple today.

People should print out little signs saying,“Ordered Shut by President Obama to Punish the American People.”Then tape or glue them to the Barrycades.

Done.

According to this article, 83% of the federal government is running as normal. Only 17% is in “shutdown.” The reason the parks, monuments and memorials are “shut down” is because they are so visible to the public. President Obama wants to use this opportunity to inflict as much mental anguish, suffering, pain and inconvenience on the WWII veterans and the American public at large as possible for POLITICAL REASONS, NOT FOR BUDGETARY REASONS. He hates America and this is his way to shove it into the publics’ faces. There is no reason to go out of your way to shut down these open areas that normally are open to come and go as you please when the government is running.

He is governing by temper-tantrum. He is being a prissy, petulant, punitive, juvenile, thin-skined little pr*ck.

Obama has done us a favor here, in that he's giving people the confidence to take on their oppressors.

I'm not in an area where I can defy the king, but I hope this grassroots rebellion spreads and people continue to knock over cones and baraq-ades.
