Why Is This Not a National Tragedy? A troubled young mother is shot dead and our ruling class...
American Spectator ^ | 10.7.13 | ESTHER GOLDBERG

A troubled young mother is shot dead and our ruling class applauds.

An unarmed 34-year-old woman suffering from postpartum depression is surrounded by the authorities while sitting in her car, and gunned down in cold blood. She is blocked in. She cannot move. And yet she is killed by heavily armed security officers. Her one-year old child witnesses this from the back seat. Why is this not a national tragedy?

Miriam Carey was a young African-American woman who wanted to better herself. She went to college and graduated with a BA degree in health and nutrition science. She became a dental hygienist. One of her neighbors noted that it was obvious she was educated. She gave birth to her daughter a year ago and began to suffer from postpartum depression. She displayed some irrational behavior and was put on medication.

Thus far it’s not an uncommon story. About 50% of women who give birth suffer from postpartum depression. A friend of mine was on medication for more than 8 years after her daughter was born. This might conceivably happen to my daughter. Or to one of Obama’s daughters, come to think of it.

Then, on October 3, Miriam crashed her car into a security barrier near the White House. She was surrounded by security men shouting at her and pointing high-power guns. Was it so irrational to try to escape, to protect her daughter from men pointing pistols at her? A chase ensued, and she then crashed her car into a median somewhere in the vicinity of the Congress. She was blocked by security forces from several agencies. She could not move. She was unarmed, and alone save for her daughter. In her car, unprotected. And then she was killed...

Mostly, they just had to stop this driver, dead or alive...

They stopped her alive. Then executed her.

Remember it was just after the Navy Yard incident so the Capital Police are going to be on edge.

I hear what you’re saying, too-but my point was that the only difference between a possibly unhinged person behind the wheel at one of our cowboy roundups or apple festivals and one doing the same thing in DC is location. We have regular folks elected by the people-us-in DC, not kings and high nobility.

The end does not justify the means just because one is a tourist trap in BF Egypt and one is a tourist trap in DC-the people there are no better or more entitled to safety-or deserving of being shot dead-than those who live here, and their LEOs do not have any more right to kill people for fleeing than our county LEOs do if they are not shooting or throwing bombs-that is called wrongful death, and it merits a lawsuit and possibly prison time.

Why that woman drove from Conneticut, whether she could become a danger, what she wanted to do and all the rest is all just speculation at this point, and maybe forever if the facts are not uncovered.

If they thought she had explosives, then shooting would be really dumb-what have most homicide bombers done when they heard gunshots? Those cops did something most of are taught is a stupid thing to do-they made an ASSumption-never a good idea, and this time someone died-poor judgment, worst police work ever-no matter how much that family is awarded by a jury, it is not enough, in my opinion.

It’s a strange story that doesn’t add up. There should be an investigation IMHO, but, I doubt there will be.

Besides they had to deal with the Navy Yard.

Is it possible there be a White Hispanic among the shooters?

Immediately following the First Cornonation of The One, I remember something that immediately began:

A very steady volume of screaming from DC that hordes of nuts were swearing they’d kill the first black President of the US.

It was this huge tizzy from the DC media echo chamber and no one was contesting it because all assumed that the people with the best information regarding all of that were our betters, The Authorities.

And so there was this very, very hyperprotective stance that the SS took, and there were even very early accounts here at FR that in one motorcade the ss rifleman from the rear-security vehicle had his weapon shouldered and trained on the crowds lining each side of the motorcade —that was written about heavily here at FR, and almost no other place.

Just like what you might expect in Guatemala, or the Congo.

And I think when the Prez is some diverse person the SS feels a completely unconditional support of a huge media machine behind them and whatever they do.

I think this dead woman was genuinely nutty, ran into one of their barricades, and they more or less executed her for that, after taking her child out.

At the very most I think they might have feared she had some large bomb in the car.

And I think they had no worry about needling after-action questions, and I think that now also they have no such worries.

I have noticed that and yes, the woman was nutty.

“This article said: “My friend suffered from post-partem depression and was on medication for eight years after her daughter was born.”
That’s weird, and more than a little creepy. What kind of woman would be depressed that long after her child was born?”

Use your head... It is a chemical imbalance in the brain caused by pregnancy and/or child birth. It doesn’t affect all women. Individuals recover in varying time frames and degrees. It is not a conspiracy to turn child-bearing women into drug-addled idiots...

“No, it is because it was only a few weeks after the Navy Yard incident.”

What, this is a valid excuse for this result???

They are PROFESSIONALS and are supposed to be able to deal with this sort of thing rationally and without emotion. If they cannot do that, they need to get another job.

And the whole group-action of mass gunfire is totally uncalled for. It takes just a few shots, not emptying the magazines of every officer on the scene.THIS needs to be curtailed.

If cops are that fearful, they need off the streets.

Well I am not surprised they would be uptight after the Navy Yard incident a few weeks latter for this incident to happen. Remember they viewed the car as a possible bomb carrier.

It seems we’re the only 2 that recall it. Amazing, even a flaming Buddhist Monk act on the mall can be squelched by the US media. I can’t believe he did not leave a statement behind, so how/why is it being concealed.
