President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that the U.S. economy risks a very deep recession if Congress doesnt raise the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling.
Speaking at a news conference at the White House, Obama said hes willing to talk to Republicans about anything, including changes to his health-care law, once lawmakers end the partial government shutdown and increase the countrys borrowing authority.
No American president would deal with a foreign leader like this, he said, according to Bloomberg News. Most of you would not deal with either coworkers or business associates in this fashion. We shouldnt be dealing this way here in Washington.

What? Refusing to negotiate until the other side capitulates on the very subject to be negotiated? Like what you want Israel to do with the Palestinians? No, most of us would not do that, but you will.
You're saying publicly that shutting down the government and keeping it shut down will cause a deep recession, and our mangy little dog, too? Surrender, Dorothy, or else? But that's talking down the economy.

very deep recession
By my way of thinking, we have been in a recession/depression plus inflation for the past 5 years. There has been no real economic growth.

When it comes to ObamaCare, he says we can't change it- it's the law.
But the debt ceiling is a law that he says must be changed.
Why can some laws be changed and some laws can't be changed?

‘Let me be perfectly clear’ I have reached the debt ceiling on my credit cards, and if Obama does not give a raise on my social security, I will be in a deep recession...

Why aren’t some laws enforced, such as immigration, or DOMA, while others are?

Yeah, raise the debt ceiling so this glorified crackhead can send Air Force One on a round trip flight to fetch the family dog to Hawaii. Raise the debt so more sensitivity luncheons can be held in the White House for transsexuals and state dinners for countries that don’t show up.

Let’s not forget IRS field offices. Those have to go down. Also, stop paying those bozos erecting road blocks in front of national parks. If they want to volunteer for this essential service, that’s their business.

...because Obama only pays attention to laws he likes. To add to what you said, the only way the ACA was passed was through bribes (Cornhusker purchase, for example) to the last couple of votes. It was so close that it would not have passed if funding had been included in the ACA act itself. So, now that the funding is a new legal issue, Obama wants to pretend that it doesn't exist, because the unfunded law was passed and he won an election in-between.
That's not correct. The House decides on funding. It's bad enough that the bill was rammed through with a "deem and pass." Perhaps the reason they did it without funding was so it would pass muster later as funding originated by the House. But, they didn't fund it when they passed it.
