President Obama floated down from his ivory tower this afternoon to explain himself to the American people. The White House press corps was only too happy to help: It's rather telling that @BarackObama has told "journalists" at least 3 times in this that they've made great points in their questions.— If you like your sycophantic WH press corps, you can keep your sycophantic WH press corps…— Is there anyone in the press corps worth a damn? Were they given the questions beforehand? #StateMedia—

Close … Jay Carney actually gave POTUS a handy-dandy list to keep track of all the sycophants. No, really: rare acknowledgment by Obama that he calls on who his press office suggests he call on: "I'm just going through my list – talk to Jay."— Amazing. Obama just admitted he’s is only taking questions from his pre-approved reporter list.— Jay Carney RT @bceil @rickklein @BretBaier who made the list he is just going through…— It's nice of Jay Carney to choose which reporters are allowed to ask Obama questions.—

Conspicuously absent from the list: Reporters who have demonstrated a willingness to ask difficult questions. Huh. Pre-selected reporters didn't ask any questions on Obamacare. Funny, that.— POTUS clever so far in his selection of WH press questioners. Nothing from @edhenryTV or @jonkarl who might ask a challenging question.—

Brit Hume (@brithume) October 08, 2013
A trio of Fox News journalists took notice: Questions from WH press corps are pathetic. As of this moment, not a single tough or challenging inquiry.— Agreed-Nothing at all RT @brithume Questions from WH press corps are pathetic. As of this moment, not a single tough or challenging inquiry.— Watching press conferences today I am convinced some in the media are as removed from reality as those in Washington #softballquestions—

Amen. What the American people witnessed today from the press corps wasn’t journalism; it was bootlicking. They're no longer the WH press corps. They're the WH press corpse.— @allahpundit No . The sycophants and toads of White House Press Corpse did their job of shielding their master well .— You can't interrupt your hero RT @AdamBaldwin: Good grief, WH Press Corpse, grab your ovaries and interrupt this fool!—

What is really amazing is that the “news” media are not ashamed of this. They don’t even care if everyone knows they are just the Zero King’s lapdogs!!
Knoller is a boss.
Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) October 08, 2013
As Twitchy reported, President Obama was only too glad to answer questions this afternoon at a press conference provided the questions were from reporters on Jay Carneys pre-approved list. As the presser dragged on, viewers were left wondering whether anyone would dare force the president to explain his actions.
Fortunately for us, one pre-approved reporter managed to slip by the White Houses embargo on tough questions.
Holy crap, someone is asking a tough question.
J.R. Salzman (@jrsalzman) October 08, 2013
And the winner is Mark Knoller:
Finally @markknoller with a real question

Knoller with a real question
Gary Eaton (@garysteveneaton) October 08, 2013
Its about damn time.
Hey, a question about piecemeal bills! From @markknoller
Guy Benson (@guypbenson) October 08, 2013
Here we go @markknoller with a question about now 10 house bills passed to fund various elements of the government.
Bret Baier (@BretBaier) October 08, 2013
Finally! Knoller asks Obama why he won't support House bills to "fund programs you support"
Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) October 08, 2013
.@markknoller asks great question. Why isn't Obama signing bills that could fund WIC, NIH, and veterans programs today?
Matt Gorman (@msgorman) October 08, 2013
A great question, indeed. And its one that deserves a proper, honest response. Unfortunately, this is Barack Obama were dealing with, so we didnt get one.
Obama says "it's tempting" to approve bills that fund FEMA and FDA, but "can't do a shotgun approach like that."
Roger Simon (@politicoroger) October 08, 2013
POTUS says he doesn't favor "shotgun" approach only high profile things like national monuments get funding from House
Shannon Bream (@ShannonBream) October 08, 2013
Finally @markknoller asks why not sign House bills to fund key parts of gov't favored by POTUS. Answer: less publicized agencies left out.
Brit Hume (@brithume) October 08, 2013
POTUS on not funding individual programs: "If there is no political heat, if there is no television story on it, then nothing happens."
Oliver Darcy (@oliverdarcy) October 08, 2013
And President Petulance needs political heat as long as its directed at someone else. While Obama was busy bobbing and weaving around the heart of Knollers question, he actually revealed weve known along: his sole objective is to inflict as much pain as possible and hold the GOP responsible.
Obama says he won't sign mini spending bills because it would relieve political pressure on the GOP. So there's that.
Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) October 08, 2013
Obama goes off on GOP for "holding economy hostage" for leverage, then explains why he must do the same thing re: funding NIH, FDA, etc.
Guy Benson (@guypbenson) October 08, 2013
Wow, @BarackObama is admitting he's willing to harm vets and kids with cancer to keep pressure on Republicans. Disgusting. #SpiteHouse
Derek Hunter (@derekahunter) October 08, 2013
What we've learned from Obama's answer to Knoller's question:
Obama doesn't want to help Americans if it means it will help Republicans.
Matthew (@Matthops82) October 08, 2013
Bingo. This is all about spite, pure and simple. Anyone expecting the buck passer in chief to willingly take responsibility for his actions is foolish but Knollers no fool:
Did you @markknoller manage to ask POTUS about POTUS using Park Rangers to make the shutdown "as painful as possible?"
Film Ladd (@FilmLadd) October 08, 2013
@FilmLadd Didn't come up. He would have denied it.
Mark Knoller (@markknoller) October 08, 2013
Says it all.
***
“bootlickers” has just become my new word instead of MSM or co-conspirators.
President Obama-half black, half spite.
