Question: What's the difference Flying into Airport in MD, DC, or VA with Legally Checked Firearm?

Will they confiscate if I fly into BWI (lower airfare) and safer if I fly into Dulles??

This whole thing is so messed up ...

I guess DCA (Reagan National is actually in VA, so my choices are MD or VA.

In one state you’ll be arrested. In another you will be ignored. In DC you will be shot.

Could you find out what the address is at your destination and FedEx the Firearm there and have it delivered when you get there.

I would stay out of MD at all costs.

I guess you're right, just fly into Dulles and pay the extra $40 in airfare. Thanks to everyone for responding. MD is a BIG unknown right now and doesn't seem to respect permits from ANY other state.

Looks like it would be an ideal situation for a court challege - I just don't have the time for the hassle.

Firearms and FEDEX are a no no, unless you are a licensed dealer...

Firearms 1.Carrier will transport and deliver firearms as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, between areas served in the U.S., but only between: i.Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors; law enforcement agencies of the U.S.or any department or agency thereof; and law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political subdivisions thereof; or
ii.Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same).

2.Carrier cannot ship or deliver firearms C.O.D.
3.Upon presenting the goods for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to Carrier is required to notify Carrier that the shipment contains a firearm. The outside of the package(s) must not be marked, labeled or otherwise identify that the package(s) contains a firearm.
4.The shipper and recipient must be of legal age as identified by applicable law.
5.The shipper and recipient are required to comply with all applicable government regulations and laws, including those pertaining to labeling. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can provide assistance.
6.Carrier will transport small-arms ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Hazardous Materials section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as hazardous materials. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.

Awhile back I went to a presentation given by an NRA lawyer. He talked about a man who was recently arrested for taking a handgun into New York City.

The man was on a commercial airliner. The gun was in the plane’s storage compartment. The plane was not even supposed to land in NYC. It was diverted to NYC by bad weather. Yet the man was arrested.

If you are transporting a firearm (by any method), stay out of New York City, DC, and Maryland. Seriously. Don’t take the chance.

I once had to FedEx a handgun to the manufacturer for a repair. They Fed Ex-ed it back to me at my home address. The delivery guy actually went to the wrong address (the house across the street), but wouldn’t walk across the street to bring it to the right address so I had to go to the pick-up center to get it. They had not repaired the gun, but sent me a brand-new one under warranty. No paperwork for a new serial number or anything, but in my state none of that is registered anywhere so it didn’t matter.

For future reference, in some of the irrational states, it makes sense to “pre-position” with friends a loaner gun for your use when you are in state. Don’t fly with it any more than you would with a laptop containing incriminating evidence.

There are no airports in DC. DCA and IAD are both in Virginia. BWI is in Maryland.
