License to kill: Proposed ‘stand your ground’ law in Ohio an invitation to violence and vigilantism
The Toledo Blade ^ | October 11, 2013 | The Editors

Some Ohio lawmakers want to modify the state’s concealed-weapons law by vastly expanding the circumstances in which a person has no duty to retreat before using lethal force in self-defense. Such a “stand your ground” law is unnecessary. Worse, it would increase the danger of gun violence — something this state and its cities hardly need.

City councils in several Ohio communities, including Toledo, Akron, Dayton, and Cincinnati, formally oppose the proposed bill. Members of the Ohio Student Association also have protested it.

Current Ohio law states that people need not retreat in their residence, their vehicle, or the vehicle of an immediate family member. That’s more than adequate, covering areas of personal domain to which American legal tradition and the “castle doctrine” traditionally have extended special protections and immunities.

The proposed House bill would, among other changes, extend those immunities to anywhere a person has a legal right to be — a virtual invitation to violence and vigilantism. The fact that a person feels threatened, even by an unarmed person, should not become a license to kill, or a legal justification for shooting another person, anytime and anyplace.

Stand-your-ground laws — sometimes disparagingly called “shoot first,” “kill at will,” or “make my day” — have been hotly debated across the country, especially since the fatal shooing of an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin....

They bring up Trayvon for the emotional value, since stand your ground had nothing to do with that case. Thousands upon thousands of little Joseph Goebbels in every newsroom across this continent.

Not Joseph Goebbels just simply ignorant, uninformed or purposely deceitful leftist. Joseph Goebbels had a plan (Hideous and evil) and a goal. These people just like to ride their imaginary moral high-horse and the facts be damned

In Barry’s America, it’s starting to come down to kill or be killed. Normal Americans need all of these kinds of laws we can get if we are going to survive living in a country full of feral Obamanoids.

They have a plan too. It’s when they are faking a confused stance that they are deep into executing the plan.
Hold out baits to entice your enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.

As I understand it, stand-your-ground laws remove one situational advantage from evil-doers and threateners of physical harm and, they partially reverse a disadvantage to violent crime victims.

No. "Stand your Ground" laws provide incentives for sub-humans to behave more like humans, even if they don't aspire to become such.

Stand your ground laws only increase the likelihood of someone getting shot if a criminal is attacking someone. Removing those kinds of people from society is performing a service.

Sorry but you are incorrect. They have their own evil goals, it's called a Marxist based government.

It may not be as focused as Goebbels, but is a goal, and it includes a transformation of America including the defeat and removal of our individual liberties.

Gun free zones are the perfect free fire zones for the crazed democrat mass murderers that continue to wreak havoc on civil society.

What does one think the outcome will be when a “president” instructs people to “get in your neighbor's face” and “bring a gun”.

Trayvon Martin’s physical attack on George Zimmerman was needless and senseless.

Funny, a license to kill, killing a subhuman who attacks you or your family is all of a sudden WRONG and we should not be given the opportunity to protect ourself. Ask the editors on the toledo blade if they have protection or does anyone in thier family circle have? Hypocrite scumedia bowing to the left agenda!

The other day, Beck said that between 1950 and today, all but 2 of the "mass shootings" occurred in "gun free" zones.
