I was behind a woman the other day at the service counter at the Publix. She seemed wired out of her mind on something. I still don’t know exactly what all was going on. She was returning stuff that was half opened, buying stuff, buying cigarettes, lottery tickets. Had to split the payment. Yada yada yada.
Turns out I see the display screen and it seemed to me that she returned food she bought to pay for the cigarettes and lottery tickets, and paid for the food w/ her ebt card.
Whatever the hell she did, she seemed to be on drugs and held up a line of people for about 5 minutes. I almost wanted to stop her and ask her to thank the 7 people in line for paying for her groceries.
Aside from you how would you know if THEY were paying with EBT cards?
Even money she would have taken a swing at you. Better than even money if she was hopped up on something.
I know just what you’re talking about. I’ve had similar experiences. Each time I’ve witnessed an attitude and display of entitlement that is downright disgusting.
They can’t return SNAP-purchased food for cash, if that’s what you’re thinking.
Here’s the sad part - can you imagine her working? Good grief - she’d probably get a job at the DMV.
I wonder if we’re just paying a ‘please go away and leave us alone’ tax in some cases.

publix generally will credit you EBT if bought on FS. not give money back. i am surprised.
