AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Ted Cruz is decrying a deal brokered by his U.S. Senate colleagues to avert a default and reopen the government - but isn't planning a filibuster to derail it.

In a statement Wednesday, Cruz slammed the Senate and Washington in general for not doing more to shield Americans from the nation's new health care law.

But he also praised the House for its "bold stance" during the government shutdown and debt-limit fight.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

I think you have to be cautious, at the very least, in saying nice things of any kind about Rubio around here. I think he is officially in the same category as McCain at this point.

fwiw, Rubio is not in the same category as McCain. Rubio made the mistake of thinking he could solve the invasion problem as soon as he got to DC, maybe thinking the rhetoric was campaign hyperbole. He got played badly by Schumer and mccain. He underestimated how strongle people across the US feel about the invasion.

I haven't given up on Rubio. He stood firm with Cruz during the 21 hours. He didn't back down on Obamacare.

We give up on people for one mistake. The ones I give up on are the minimcains....Ayotte and Flake....who after their first misstep just kept stepping in RINO quicksand. Now they're official traitors and saboteurs.

I heard Cruz....he was awesome.

Spoke outside the chamber as McConnell was speaking inside.----what a wide chasm between the two.

I think the plan is to basically get small concessions now and then DO THE WHOLE THING OVER AGAIN IN 2014 when people actually see it in their checks and it’s an election year.

What must be done is publishing whatever it is the Democrats have that’s used to extort McConnell’s cooperation.

He has a secret that the Democrats use, and McConnell is loathe to make public, that we the voters must know before it destroys our nation.

No one’s reputation is more important than the future stability of this nation!
