Was the Point Republicans Made in the Shutdown Worth the Price?
Wall Street Journal ^ | October 16, 2013 | Gerald F. Seib

The Republican Party's tea-party adherents believe they made an important point by setting in motion the events that led to this month's government shutdown, ill-fated though that shutdown might have been.

The question they and the rest of their party now are left to ponder is this: Was the price paid worth the point made? That question, in fact, now lies at the heart of what figures to be a full-fledged struggle over the soul of the party, and over who really leads it.

The Republicans stood to gain tremendously but the prospect of success scared them, they are so unused to it, so they, of course, threw it all away at the last minute and proudly accepted “blame” for the shutdown. They never made the economic arguments or much of any other arguments for the operation. They performed wonderfully well in their assigned tasks of boosting the Democrats chances in the upcoming elections, transferring the authority to control the debt limit to the Democrat President, and transferring the Origination of money bills to the Senate.

We, the awake and aware, already knew that. With the MSM spin on this, we, the awake an aware, may have a slight increase in numbers. But no groundswell of added support. It is atrocious.

NO — because what we got in the end was worse.

When Murdock bought the WSJ, many if us thought it would be a breath of fresh air, how wrong we were. Even the NY Post, also Murdock owned, has shifted to the left, as has the Fox network.

Obama and Reid caused the shutdown. I guess among the Gop elited and Dems it’s “settled science” that Republicans are to blame.

What point?!? We got nothing because Boehner surrendered.

Cruz ascended to the leadership role, Lee stood tall, and boney folded like a wet towel.

NOTHING?!? They had the support they needed, they had the tools and boney capitulated like it was nothing.

IMHO, the nature of the capitulation was an attempt to slapdown Senator Cruz.

FAIL!

Oh, and we know about the RINO earmarks... FURINO!!!

I’m thinking the same thing. As more and more people are told that their existing policy is being replaced by a policy with much higher premiums and deductibles, they are going to remember the Congressmen who fought against Obamacare.

The point, mr sieb, was to smoke out those who would support the President and blow up their own party. That has been accomplished and the GOP can now officially be declared dead. There is one party, the Proletariats. Then, there are a few patriots running around. That’s it.

Sorry but it won’t be remembered by enough to make a difference AND it will lead to another worse agreement in January and February. The Reps will take another foolish stand on shifting ground. In the meantime immigration is going to sail through now that Obama and Reid have the momentum.

And, why would we expect the ‘effort’ of the pubbies to be remembered in the future? Once the socialists succeed in the ultimate transformation of America (closer than many think), the history books will be written by the communists and the pubbies will be characterized as traitors, infidels, and insurrectionists. There will be no accolades for kneeling before the socialists.
Much like the muslims, the socialists look at capitulation as a sign of weakness, and deserving only of enslavement and derision.

They are run by rino's. Nothing is going to change until that changes.

In the end we are where we always have been and always will be.....elections....nothing else matters. If we can't win elections it just comes down to a bunch of useless bitching. We should put up people who can win in the primaries. We need do to our caucus what the democrats did to theirs'...they ran off all the conservative democrats they could. They kept them until they could replace them with a liberal democrat. They did not risk losing a seat until they were able to hold a majority without the conservatives. We have to change peoples minds about what the country needs.

The only point the ‘Pubbies have made is that they will, inevitably, surrender on any point. They are weaklings, cowards, milquetoasts. They are spineless, balless, retarded eunuchs.

Yes, it was worth it. The exposure of the spitefulness of the Spite House alone was worth it.

"Was the Point Republicans Made in the Shutdown Worth the Price"

I was if the GOP is able to craft the shutdown into a coherent message. It should be easy to do considering how inept the Democrats are......

Definitely reminds me of a relevant quote - “Stand up for what you believe in even if it means standing alone.” - don’t know who originally said it, just have seen it floating around from time to time.

Very good quote, and life message.

And some news programs showing an actual letter ( name redacted) from an insurance company with the real numbers, including the rise in deductibles.

This is not all about premiums. It’s total real cost, and the sooner that gets graphically displayed the better.

Yes. Cruz took what would have been a speedbump and gave it national attention right before the big Zerocare rollout debacle. Now it’s on the front burner just as people are starting to sign up, and they are pissed.

Just in time for the ‘14 elections. Or rather primaries, as Cruz exposed all the fakes from the real deals and gave us a roadmap of who needs to be gotten rid of.
