How Will You Fare in the Obamacare Exchanges?
Heritage Foundation ^ | Oct. 17, 2013 | Drew Gonshorowski

Posted on 10/17/2013 8:48:39 AM PDT by libstripper

There are literally no comparisons to current rates. That is, [the Department of Health and Human Services] has chosen to dodge the question of whose rates are going up, and how much. Instead they try to distract with a comparison to a hypothetical number that has nothing to do with the actual experience of real people. —Douglas Holtz-Eakin President, American Action Forum[1]

Enrollment in Obamacare’s health insurance exchanges has proven to be a somewhat difficult process amidst technical glitches and delays. Aside from the issues associated with actually purchasing health care, once an individual gets a quote for health insurance on an exchange, is the premium higher or lower than before?

Why can't they simply publish the rates the insurers are charging and then allow us to sign up directly with them?

Well, they do openly publish rates in my state; I started looking up premiums (and subsidies) half way through September. The exchange plans are unique but in this state only slightly to moderately different from those sold by the insurers directly. The insurers list both but can not sell the exchange plans directly.

I continue to feel that governors who did not implement the state exchanges did no favor to their citizens. Why subject their people to the whims and incompetence of the feds for such an important thing? Seems the residents are going to pay for their governor's obstinacy. It's worst for the childless lowest income people who can neither go on Medicaid or get subsidies.

Ironically, the 18-26 year old probably doesn’t cost the insurance company much — a young healthy kid — and they can charge the parents the family rate which is higher than primary plus spouse or just primary.

Last night Ted Cruz said the government is not going to do anything about Obamacare. He said it’s up to the American people to do something about it.

My ultimate wish is that the news corporations kick all of obama’s propaganda comrades onto the “exchange”

I believe that was the point. Why should a state provide cover for the fascist tendency and incompetence of an overreaching federal government?

Seems the residents are going to pay for their governor's obstinacy.

Wnen it comes to expanding Medicaid, our Governor did this state a HUGE service by opting out. I was never a fan of the Governor, but this alone gives me cause to vote for him the next time he runs. In the coming years, the states that expanded Medicaid will find their budgets creeping into the red for years to come as they accommodate the wealth redistribution scheme of their federal overlords. Meanwhile, states like mine will begin to experience a migration as third and fourth generation lifetime welfare recipients will begin to flee in favor of states that implemented the socialist expansion. Those not eligible for subsidies here will relocate to states where they are eligible. So again, my governor deserves nothing but praise for his decision to not help the Obama Administration destroy this country.

What I can’t believe is why a 26 year old man would want to still be on their parents plan? I would have considered myself a failure if I had to do that at that age.

By age 26, I had a college degree, a full time job, a full time wife, and a mortgage. I was still dumb and wet behind the ears, but I was responsible for myself.

Asking Daddy for something, I would have felt less like a man and more like a pathetic little boy.

Looking around and seeing these 30 yr old men still living at home. How can they look themselves in the mirror?

yep... just take a look at our culture, as exemplified on television... women, and in particular young girls get all the intelligent lines... the boys and husbands and other various 20 year old males are just props for them, primped up stupid pantry boys, with no guts, just reacting to smart, funny, intelligent women. This is our culture. A culture of strong men, is a thing of the past. And I'm not saying that we need to be a culture dominated by strong men, just a culture in which strong men make up a good part of the population..

As for me, I was out of the house at age 18..

how in the world will we ever win another war on a global scale?

What? As opposed to the incompetence of state governments? Colorado just spent between $100 and $200 million on its exchange. It doesn’t work and only 226 people have signed up.

It seems you are going to win with “feel good ideology” and lose in every other respect. Just like the house.

Some states more competent than others. Washington State has over 50,000 enrollments.

Re: the Chase Bank letter. I saw this sourced at Natural News dot com. The author there has been spot on in three or four articles on Obamacare, the EBT shameful act that went on in Louisiana. He checked and Chase Bank is doing this.

What’s your take on this? Is it to assume everyone is a money laundering criminal? Or assuming everyone is guilty of having an offshore account or a symptom of things to come?

That presumes that their parent’s plan is not cut.

Quite right. People are reporting their entire family plans are being cut loose, with their policies only covering the employee.

Which then leads to the “divorcing” to be able to have insurance.

It seems you are going to win with “feel good ideology”

I stopped at the word 'seems' because I saw that I was about to receive your emotional perception in place of any critical thought regarding the facts I just posted. "Feel good ideology"? You are out of your mind.

What part of Medicaid expansion do you not get? States that sign up are now on the hook for life to provide Medicaid coverage to an expanded class of people. And by 'on the hook', I mean that the working citizens of their prospective states will bear the brunt of paying for it. Sure, the federal government is offering 100% pure heroin that first year. But once the state gets hooked, the government starts stepping on that heroin, decreasing its purity down to 90%, then 80%, then 70%. And before you know it, that smack just isn't getting you high any more. Yet you're still hooked, and you keep buying and buying and buying.

Again, I praise my Governor (whom I don't even like) for (as Nancy Reagan would say) "Just saying 'no'".

In coming years, as states like Arizona find it harder and harder to come up with enough cash to pay for a fresh influx of welfare recipients, states like Georgia will be holding the line because they recognized socialism for what it was and chose to opt out.

It’s the start of capital flight controls.

Countries with failing currencies do this on the way down. For now, the bank is pretending they are doing it on their own, but obviously the orders come from the treasury.

It is the beginning of an economic Berlin Wall around America. Just a few layers of cement blocks and a bit of wire for today.

Thank you. I feared that. You are right, this would be a bad business decision. They got their marching orders and owed Barry for bailout. Wonder which “bank” is next?

this administration is rapid fire, one power grab after another. they have the money, the media, the Courts, ACLU.. I can just imagine every day the talking point arrive in every gov shill office and MSM office every morning like clockwork.

Yep, I was not happy with Brewer’s decision. All the Illegal Immigrants we have here cost enough. Perhaps if this Country wasn’t supporting 1/5 of Mexico the saved revenue might be enough for some “plan” for the 8% that didn’t have insurance for reasons other than they didn’t want it.

There have been since 2006 or so, Health rating companies. They get around the HIPAA laws by operating as a credit rating company. I had no idea until I tried to get insurance after my divorce (when I was employed) through AETNA, and kept getting asked over and over (4 separate times) did I have diabetes (which was no) and I kept telling them that. The fourth time I found out why they were asking. The Aetna rep told me they had to ask because a health “rating” data company had in their file that I had taken a diabetes drug. My health provider had me try it for an off label use for another issue. I had NO INSURANCE and PAID CASH for the one-time prescription at either Walgreens/CVS/or Target, can’t remember which one. Who entered that info into a health ratings database? No insurance company did. It had to be the pharmacy. Why? Why were they allowed to do that?

These data companies already for years have gotten around Medical Privacy Laws by being allowed to operate like a credit rating company. To Prove I didn’t have diabetes, they wanted me to send them every medical record for the last ten years. I said screw it. I didn’t have the minimum 600 bucks a month anyway. That was less than the food bill for my four kids and I.

The 20-somethings need to understand that premiums will rise under the ACA. There’s no driver within Barry’s socialist scheme to drive down cost. Well...other than rationing and death panels.
