“...well that is YOUR problem. So you stay away from places where people smoke....problem solved.”

And then, retailers and restaurants realized they were losing business because non-smokers WERE staying away...and they changed their rules to accommodate the larger group of spenders...the non-smokers...problem solved.

You have got to be kidding....these business's had ‘no choice’...the non-smoking laws were established by gov....’not the business owner’...so get your facts straight......it 's regulated (law) by the states....sheesh.

Just as with most non-smokers..you chose to create your own story to justify 'government interference'. Businesses should have the freedom to choose who their clientel is.....Gov., as it always does, took away the freedom for businesses to determine this.

And many places went non-smoking WITHOUT government interference to correct that.

and they changed their rules to accommodate the larger group of spenders...the non-smokers...problem solved.

Yes, many did WITHOUT government interference, but that wasn't good enough for people like you, you had to get big brother involved so everything was to accommodate YOU.

When we were fighting the ban in Delaware, one of the most vocal opponents of it was a gentleman who owned a very popular (and upscale) bar and restaurant that he had decided to take smoke-free. He didn't want the ban, because he claimed it would cut into the niche market he created for himself. He was right, his business declined drastically following the ban.

As to your so-called larger group of spenders, tell that to all the establishments that lost business because of the ban.

The number one reason owners wouldn't go smoke free was because they would lose business to places that permitted smoking - and you can find that excuse in favor of government interference in news reports in every state the bed wetting anti-smokers descend up to impose their ways.

I'm a former smoker so I am not affected by the non-smoking...but you're wrong... restaurants changed their policies because of government intrusion in to their freedom to run their establishments as they wished. It is the same hard handed way they are treating us now by telling you ,you have to buy their insurance or be fined. Restaurants had already made changes to accommodate non-smokers. Of course the liberals made sure that it was only going to be their way. Forcing a businessman to accommodate one party over another is an affront to freedom; that should be his decision to make!!!

Would you mind posting actual proof?

The government passed laws making smoking in various venues illegal and THAT is why restaurants, bars and bowling alleys "changed their rules".

If non-smokers had such power all of these businesses would have been non-smoking and no private property usurping laws would have been required.

Of course I don't expect to see any proof as none exists.

Our VFW was a smoking friendly Post but was losing money so they went to a NON smoking post which the few smokers complained about and whined but the place is now booming with Vets and doing about 40% better than when it was a smoking post, and the whiners did come back but have to go outside to smoke.

That isn’t what happened, at least in California, the businesses fought those laws.
