My suspicion is that a good number of these firings are of ethically-challenged yes men who have had their hands in cookie jars (or cookies) from early on in their careers, but they nonetheless moved up the ranks because "nobody saw a thing".
Yet, these types were too ignorant to know that they were being monitored and groomed for future usefulness as expendable dum@sses - useful idiot placeholders for those who proved to be much more debased (downright malevolent and cunning, i.e. not content with mere personal enrichment and physical satisfaction).
Easy for the PTB to suddenly be "Shocked, shocked!" that adultery, bribery, abuse of authority and what-have-you was standard behavior for the corrupt officers.
More to the point, it would be useful to have a supply of these arrogant Captain Schettinos (Costa Condordia reference) to heave overboard as cover for the purging of 1) the "see no evil" types who finally opened their eyes to the evil (some tossed overboard in their own cement seabag of sins), and 2) the uncorrupted, God-fearing, Constitition-honoring officers who managed to sneak through the cracks without selling their souls to beast.mil.

Talking about it with one who had a valid Top Security Clearance back when that actually meant something, may have seemed a safe bet.

Or masses of patriots with rifles. I honestly cannot fathom why people continue to rely on any box but the ammo box after the long train of abuses perpetrated by the participants of this communist coup.

But this is the way the Clintons did it with the White House Travel Office. They could have simply said "Thank you, but we want a different group here." They had that authority, and it would have been no reflection on the people fired. But no, they trumped up charges that eventually were disproven. They lied even when it wasn't necessary. Obma seems to be doing the same thing.
Remember, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is enemy action. We're well past the third time.

A totalitarian, emulating a President, was elected. Until recently, there has always been the idea, that the U.S. military was never, never, to take up arms against American civilians.
It has done so in the past, after WW1. Veterans were camped out in Washington, D.C., in regards to better treatment and rights. The sitting President ordered that the U.S. Army remove those folks, forcibly, and did so, under the command of one Douglas MacArthur.
With the present political environment, of a sitting president, thinking and acting as not an elected President, but a ruler with the attitude of “Divine Ascension”. With a sitting President owning such a mental attude, it should be abundantly clear, that he would order violence against innocent Americans, through unleashing the military’s might and technology upon them, for the merest supposed slighting.
Why else would such a question as :
“Would you fire upon Americans”, as the test of retention of military commanders.
