Democrat Terry McAuliffe has jumped to a 17-point lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia gubernatorial race following the federal government shutdown that hit Northern Virginia hard and Hillary Clinton’s weekend visit to the state.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Virginia Voters finds McAuliffe with 50% support to Cuccinelli’s 33%. Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis is a distant third with eight percent (8%) of the vote. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate, while five percent (5%) remain undecided.

Dems have archives of tapes of GOP members saying that they want the GOP to shutdown the government, and ya got freepers here posting the same themes.

Freepers are not elected officials. Could you post the link of Ted Cruz or another elected official in the GOP saying they want a shutdown?

I have not idea why you reference "talk radio" to my comments in this thread. My comments are based on what I witnessed McCain, King and Graham saying on programs like Meet The Press, not on Talk Radio.

All of Northern Virginia is now populated with Democrats who work in DC & owe their huge paychecks to the government. Libertarians will make sure the country stays in Obama’s pocket.

Cuccinelli is one of the leaders of the Republican War on Women™.

This fraud is a much bigger problem than I ever imagined it would be when Stephanopoulous kicked it off in the January 2012 debate.

It took down Aiken, and Mourdock, and now it’s taking down Cuccinelli.

I’m not sure how to fight back, but somebody better figure it out, and soon.

I saw way more Obama signs around here in 2012 than I do McAuliffe signs

Definitely not many McAuliffe signs, even in areas like Arlington and Falls Church, at least relative to Obama signs. This poll is off. McAuliffe will probably win by 6-8 points.

But in the longer term, VA is done as a Republican state, and as someone said in the other thread, it is becoming closer to MD every year. Tremendous enthusiasm for KC past Fairfax County, however, and somewhat heartening. We may regain enough strength at the state level for VA not to become as unlivable as the suburban MD counties.

If we only lost MCCain and Grahmnesty that would be nothing but they took 60% of Senate GOP with them. (and that was at the start too). Thats a disaster.

Definitely knock out Grahamnesty in the primary, I dispise him

How can a Gov shutdown be a “black eye” for activist Conservatives? Imagine our Founding Fathers sniveling about getting a black eye, laughable, because they were REAL men.

I wear it proudly, and so will my children. Fighting for liberty will give us more than just a black eye in the future.

We will have to risk all and more against the Commies and their useful idiots.

Unless of course, you are afraid of a little black eye?

Huh? And I read that Ted Cruz had this to say about Ken Cuccinelli ....

“How proud I am of my friend, Ken Cuccinelli. Ken is smart, he’s principled and he’s fierce. . .He loves liberty and the constitution.”

The GOP ads and ones by the outside groups are AWESOME but they don't have the 20 million Terry has to wash the state is bullshit.

And the Republicans aren't "worthless". Get off your high horse and check out what's happening instead of displaying your ignorance.

Makes me sick to think Mcaullife will be governor of Virginia. Why would anyone vote for him?

1. Minorities want democrats.

2. Vastly growing numbers of Americans are addicted to government entitlements.

3. The homo "marriage" movement has snared more minds than ever before.

4. Most women in VA think their "right" to a dead baby is threatened, so they want the guy who'll guarantee it to them.

5. More Virginians, like more Americans, have grown to enjoy the chains of nanny-state, hyper-regulatory government. Freedom and self-determination frighten them.

Cuccinelli was a fool to attack Cruz 3 weeks ago. The margin has exploded open since then.

Sounds like a name recognition poll depends on where it was taken and how it was weighted.

If you live in VA and get out to where people meet like a bar or coffee shop. What are people talking about anything political, gus.taxes etc ? And is Cucccinelli talking about the same stuff in his ads ?

Or is he saying something different ?

Interesting, sickoflibs! This video is put out by Senate democrats account on YouTube. And just how many suffered during the shutdown of April 2011? I didn't even know there was a shutdown in 2011. Perhaps this 2011 government shutdown is why Mitt Romney lost in 2012?

MSNBC and the other liberal talkers only used less than 1 second clips, were they taken out of context?

But in the longer term, VA is done as a Republican state, and as someone said in the other thread, it is becoming closer to MD every year.

I'm among those who were in denial of the political trends of Virginia... I still held out hope the conservatives in this state would be numerous enough to tip the scales... but the tidal waves of parasites from MD and DC, along with a massive influx of hispanics and Asians, have overwhelmed us.

I get it now... Virginia, my home for 18 years, is conquered territory.

The urban areas will never go away. One of the reasons we have lost in the past is because we write them off.

?? What should we do about urban areas?

The criminal RATs control the urban areas.

The urban are "last" to report voting results -- this is done to see how many ballots need to be fabricated to steal elections.

The GOPe doesn't fight it because they DO NOT care.

There is little talk much less action of fighting voter fraud.

4. Most women in VA think their "right" to a dead baby is threatened, so they want the guy who'll guarantee it to them.

This is how they will win elections going forward: (1) War on women, and (2) racism charges. It's all they got and it works -- unfortunately for the country.
