Mark Steyn: No reason to believe GOP will ever repeal Obamacare
Daily Caller ^ | Tuesday Oct 22, 2013

Posted on 10/22/2013 3:58:13 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

“[I] mean, Mitch McConnell’s line is now, ‘Oh, just let — Obamacare is going to be so self-evidently destructive that when we win our spectacular victory in the Senate election and the next presidential election, we will be able to repeal it and roll it back.’ When do the Republicans ever do that?

Those Carter-era innovations like the entirely useless federal Department of Education, the federal Energy Department, even the National Endowment of the Arts — when for decades it has been mocked for giving public monies to crucifixes floating in urine, homoerotic photography involving bullwhips attractively positioned — none of those nickel and dime things have the Republican Party succeeded in rolling back. What are the odds that when this thing implodes, the Republicans are going to be making a tremendous case for genuine free choice in health care that Obamacare will be repealed?

“I don’t see that"

"I think the danger here, Joe, once it’s a disaster, is people will — the government for one always doubles down on, for start, always doubles down on disasters. If it’s a disaster, they’ll say we need more government interference,” he continued. “We need a tighter government system. We need more government control. We need government-owned hospitals. We need government-employed doctors. We need government-employed nurses.”

“Is it more likely that they say that, or that the Mitch McConnell line, ‘Well Obamacare has imploded, so we can set up a proper private health care system in the rubble,’ is going to work?” Steyn said. “I think that is way too complacent. Republicans have been complacent about the Department of Education, the National Endowment of the Arts and everything else for decades and that’s why they haven’t reversed any of them. I mean, Joe, where do you go on this?

Even when we are seventeen trillions dollars in debt and bankrupt, we have yet to close out a single useless department of government. Not one.

You’d think that the “government shutdown” in which “non-essential” departments are closed, would give us a hint as to the way forward. But Repubs are so busy wetting themselves in fear that they never proposed closing a single one.

Mark Steyn is so on the money here.

What about the track records of the Surrender Monkey and Collaborator caucuses would ever lead a serious conservative, or even a mind-numbed pull-the-lever everytime GOP voter to believe that they would ever decrease the size of government?

Unless a majority of Dems and collectivist Pubbies are voted out of office in both the Senate and House.

And the “temporary” Income Tax (I knew there was another item I wanted to list when I clicked “Reply”).

The symbiotic relationship between government and finance has existed since 1790 when Hamilton got his bank scheme pushed through. Every government agency of any size develops a clientele that is wealthy enough to prevent its destruction. Public Education, for instance, is a huge “industry “ that “feeds” hundreds of billions to companies all over the country.

The GOP will never get past a RAT filibuster constituted as it is.

Actually I agree that Obamacare will never be “repealed”; because the Republicans would have to have 2/3rds majorities in both houses to do so. However that does not mean that we are stuck with it.

Congress just stops funding it. It will have no offices, no employees, no enforcement, no reimbursements, and then congress passes new laws exempting everyone from belonging to it. If the IRS tries to enforce it, the IRS has its budget reduced.

Congress then deletes the government databases filled with health information about individuals, it repeals the vile HIPAA, and likely creates a lifetime waiver for any citizen who does not wish to contribute to or receive benefits from a federal healthcare plan, possibly social security and medicare, and other federal largess programs, strangling them for money.

Eventually they tear down LBJ’s Great Society, FDR’s New Deal, and take the country back to where it was before the Great Depression, with serious controls over banking, investment, insurance and liability.

This seems like a good place to share a tidbit from the Mark Levin broadcast.

Mark played a clip of Chuck Schumer referred to applying the “McConnell Rule”:

It was Mitch “Kentucky Kickback” McConnell”s idea to cede all financial power to the president concerning debt ceilings, so he could raise the debt ceiling any time, on a whim, without having to consult congress.

I kid you not.

This is how corrupt the sacks of human waste have gotten, and how far gone the GOP is. I fear we are witnessing the last days of this once great nation.

Damn Mitch McConnell and every lowlife maggot traitor like him.

Like Steyn pointed out, the GOP hasn't managed to stop a single dime going to fund crucifixes in urine and bullwhips up backsides passing as 'art' even when they've had control of the WH and congress.

They will not shrink government. Best start looking for other ways to get it done.

>> Like Steyn pointed out, the GOP hasn’t managed to stop a single dime

It placates the constituency while giving priority to Big Money.

GOP officeholders have the easiest jobs in the world - rail against the NEA and make small government & pro-life noises once every election - and sit on their arse collecting campaign donations the rest of the time.

Obamacare will never be repealed. Please, someone tell me I am wrong.

You're wrong.

It will likely be replaced by single payer sometime in the next few decades.

So, morally speaking, who is worse?

Your sworn enemy, whose goal to defeat and destroy you is clear, and clearly stated. Or...

or your own traitorous generals that are collaborating with the sworn enemy while they are claiming to be fighting for you even as they are plotting your enslavement?

Mitch McConnell is a traitor who is, at this very moment, selling us out. A Judas.

A lot sooner than that.

I got an email yesterday from a buddy in the UK (who lived in the states for some time). "ObamaCare is many times worse than the NHS".

From someone who really knows. This is no longer academic, it's the real thing.
