US denies spying on David Cameron (UK)

The White House has explicitly said US spies never monitored David Cameron's communications but refused to say whether it had ever tapped Angela Merkel's phone in the past.

A spokesman for President Barack Obama told The Telegraph that the US never targeted the prime minister but the White House would not offer the same assurances about the German chancellor.

The distinction is likely to be seen in Berlin as further evidence that Mrs Merkel's phone was monitored by American spies, escalating what threatens to become a major international incident between the US and a key European ally.

Mrs Merkel phoned the president on Tuesday after the German government was reportedly approached by Der Spiegel, a weekly news magazine, with US documents that included her mobile phone number.

Mr Obama promised her that the US "is not monitoring and will not monitor" her communications but the White House repeatedly refused to say whether her phone had been tapped in the past.

The "Obama Doctrine": provide financial and military support to countries and organizations that wish to destroy the US...utterly alienate friendly countries.

I feel for the next President (if the country survives till 2017). His entire administration will be consumed with fixing the foreign policy damage done by THE WON.

Robert Heinlein said that we shouldn’t attribute to malice that which is more property attributable to stupidity, but don’t rule out malice.

Is Obama stupid, or is he deliberately setting out top piss off our allies?

He’s not spying on the Brits or the Germans. He’s too busy spying on us!

Every country gathers all the information they can get on every other country they can, because it is in their interest to have as much info as possible. Always have, always will. All heads of state know this, because they use this info to make decisions on a daily basis. The whining about being “spied on” is for domestic consumption.

"He’s not spying on the Brits or the Germans. He’s too busy spying on us!"

He also listened in on "William and Katherine" of England and used bugging devices to spy on them when they visited Los Angeles.

I guess he wanted to know what "William and Katherine" were saying about HIM, HIM, HIM.

Perv, or so much ego he wanted to know what they said about him.

I'd say both.
