(Reuters) - Pirates attacked an oil supply vessel off the Nigerian coast and kidnapped the captain and chief engineer, both U.S. citizens, an American defense official and security sources said on Thursday.
Pirate attacks off Nigeria's coast have jumped by a third this year as ships passing through West Africa's Gulf of Guinea, a major commodities route, have come under threat from gangs wanting to snatch cargoes and crews.
The U.S.-flagged, C-Retriever, a 222-foot (67 meter) vessel owned by U.S. marine transport group Edison Chouest Offshore, was attacked early Wednesday, UK-based security firm AKE and two security sources said. The company was not immediately available for comment.
A U.S. defense official said the State Department and FBI were leading the American response to the incident. A second defense official said the U.S. Marine Corps has a small training unit in the region but it was not clear if it would get involved.

No guarantee they are Muslims; Nigeria is about 50/50 and the Mulims have the inland half. As for Jefferson he paid off the pirates for several years before our Navy was strong enough for a fight.

Once upon a time, we had additional import tariffs that applied if goods were being imported from a non-American ship.
It was a way of building up the American fleet. As long as our trade deficit remains huge, we should go back to that.

Too much long-lasting damage has been done by his administration to this country to overlook this matter.
Back in the early 80’s I took a 900’ tanker to that area of Africa. There was a note on the chart for vessels to not communicate with callers on a certain channel who were claiming to be their pilot. The note said they were pirates, not pilots.

More bad news for the captain and chief engineer: Obama is busy with democrat fund raisers. Remember Benghazi.
It doesn't say they are Nigerian pirates, just that the sailors were kidnapped off of the Nigerian coast. Muslim or any other pirates do not observe borders. Muslim and pirate are pretty much synonymous now.

I don’t KNOW they were Nigerian Muslim pirates. But this is a long, long way from the Somali pirates. And there is a history of Muslim piracy off the Nigerian coast. That part of the country was mostly Christian, back in the days when there was fairly constant warfare between the two sides. And the Muslims were annoyed that the Christian Nigerians were getting most of the oil money. So, there was considerable violence and piracy off the coast, by Muslims.
I’d say the odds are at least 95% that Muslims were involved in this one. Because that’s the history; and also, that’s what Muslims do.
Oh, absolutely. The sock puppet has already admitted that he's a muslim (had to be corrected by his interviewer), and his birth in Kenya was already witnessed by his grandmother, and attested to by not only him a couple times, but even by his porcine wife.
The constitutional damage done by this incredible fraud will take decades to repair. But there's not one person in any kind of position of power or influence that will dare to even try to reverse this.
Any US flagged ship should have been armed and
ready to repell boarders. NO Quarter for pirates.
