Too bad that strong leadership didn’t extend to telling New Jerseyans what we needed to hear most: that we must protect ourselves from rising sea levels that worsen severe flooding, and mightier storms in the future.

That's low information reporting.

The flooding from Sandy was due to a storm surge and not glacial melt.

Storms aren't getting "mightier", this has been a record calm hurricane season.

Well there you are - extreme calmness. Couple that with the extreme temperature stability and extreme lack of rising oceans we have seen of late and the pattern is clear. If we don't get more government regulation homo sapiens will soon be extinct.

I think the liberals and the media perceive storms as getting stronger, when a storm such as Sandy hits New York City. They then go off on tangents, such as saying how can such a storm hit New York/New Jersey; it must be global warming, etc.

Though not as common as hurricanes on the Gulf coast or south Atlantic coast, hurricanes can and do hit the middle Atlantic and even New England states. They have in recorded history, long before the hysteria about global warming, and will do so in the future.

And Sandy was really a minor hurricane. It just happened to be very bad luck, Sandy hit at near-high-tide, AND at just the right point to put the channel on the wrong side, allowing a higher-than-usual storm surge.

One of these years a Cat-3 is GOING to hit New York. It would be rare, but there is nothing that makes it “impossible”, just luck of the draw. That is going to wake a lot of people up.

Just like some day, we knew a cat-5 was going to hit at high tide in the gulf, and when it did, all the bad building techniques and government-program crap was going to be tested. And the “lowest bidder, highest briber” contracting of the levies showed that you get what you pay for.
