Sebelius the 'laughingstock of America,' says senator By Elise Viebeck - 10/27/13 11:02 AM ET
A Republican senator called Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the "laughingstock of America" after she was lampooned on "Saturday Night Live."
The sketch, which aired Saturday, poked fun at Sebelius's attempts to downplay serious problems with ObamaCare's enrollment website.
Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) referred to the skit Sunday during an appearance on ABC's "This Week."
"She's lost considerable credibility," Barrasso said of Sebelius. "She's the laughingstock of America."
Sebelius has experienced a wave of scrutiny since HealthCare.gov debuted with major problems on Oct. 1.
She has also drawn fire for certain public comments, like saying she did not know how many people had enrolled under ObamaCare during an interview with Comedy Central's Jon Stewart.
Sebelius also said last week that she "does not work" for people calling for her resignation.
The health secretary was the target of several Republican attacks during the Sunday shows, just a few days before she appears before a House committee to talk about the rollout.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), a leader on the panel that will host Sebelius, said the former governor will testify on Wednesday before she's "out the door."
But the secretary received a defense from Sen. Joe Manchin (W-Va.), a Democrat who is leading the charge to delay ObamaCare's individual mandate.
Manchin flatly denied that Sebelius should leave office and praised her record as Kansas insurance commissioner and governor.
"She's very capable of bringing people together," Manchin told ABC. "I think she
will get the job done."
During the shut down, Ted Cruz OWNED the anti-Obamacare side of the debate.
Now he does not, and that is a good thing.
Chaos, for the time being, works to Ted’s advantage.
Then, Ted comes back to show the way!
Possibly, he may be giving them rope, but I want to see the knockout punch!
They were the party (at least the Tea Party) who made the claims that Obamacare was bad for the country.
After being called nasty names and being blamed for the shut down, they are now being proven right but I wonder if they are smart enough to point this fact out to the public and use this example as one of many reasons why Obamacare is bad. I don't hold much hope. You have to be vigilant because the MSM will mislead the public.
There’s nothing funny about Sebelius. The only thing she knows how to do is kill babies, and she’s very good at that.
That’s why Obama made her his health secretary in the first place. Killing babies is his top priority, and hip replacement is way down the list.
Helping the defense tackle our own quarterback
Sadly, it appears that way.
Manchin didn't seem like an unreasonable guy, unlike the other dems who want a win for Obama, whatever the cost. Manchin seemed more into getting things correct for US citizens. He also seems bright enough. I wouldn't mind having him on the Ted Cruz side.
We Obama a HUGE debt of gratitude for getting her the hell out of Kansas.
I am so conflicted about this.
Great skit. Love that they are finally mocking Obama even by proxy. It’s the cold open from the Ed norton episode on NBC.com.
Please don’t distract from the fact that this is OBAMACare, not SebeliusCare. She’s just the flak catcher - he’s the laughingstock.
HA! Good one.
Sometimes the lies from Sillybus are even more blatant than those from nobama. And that’s saying something.
The hearing this Thursday should be interesting. Preparing popcorn.
Sebelius is the target.
Freeze it, polarize it, ridicule it
ACTUALLY, the 'laughingstock of America' is that MORON in the White House who is keeping Sebelius around to keep deflecting the heat from the 'MORON in the White House'!!
Laughingstock????? This sibelius creature should be in stocks in prison.
