Penn State to pay $60 million to 26 men over Sandusky abuse claims

Penn State has announced that it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men to settle claims of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

The university said it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year.

The school said 23 deals are fully signed and three are agreements in principle. The school faces six other claims, and the university says it believes some do not have merit while others may produce settlements.

Where did all these “victims” come from??? There were only 8 to 10 at the Sandusky trial. Has he been sneaking out at night???

Wow. Demonstrating their anti-homophobia (hemophilia?) cost them $60 mil. I'm sure every one of them thinks it's absolutely worth it.

Of course, it's not their money, is it.

No member of the administration, no faculty member, will lose a penny over this. Their nice big fat tenured paychecks will go on and on.

Of course it is. University of Pennsylvania isn’t, but PSU is a state affiliated, land-grant university.

Thank You President Spanier — You certainly left your mark at Penn State.

Well, let's see...Penn State allowed Spanier to "go on leave" as of November 2012 (I'm talking about "leave" from his professor position...obviously he hasn't been prez now in a while...so, is that leave without pay? Or paid leave?

And if Penn State was still paying Spanier either thru Nov 2012...or even up thru today...doesn't that make Penn State across the board a bigger part of the problem that you might be willing to concede?

So we know Spanier was definitely on the payroll up until his indictment...and since the Penn State athletic director (Curley) was on paid leave as well even well before the indictment, why didn't Penn State fire the AD & this prof?

From the College Station newspaper, the Centre Daily:

One of the claimants, Victim 6 from the grand jury presentment against Sandusky, is suing Penn State in federal court. Penn State asked the judge for a stay until criminal prosecutions against three Penn State administrators have been resolved, but the young man’s lawyers are fighting the university’s attempt to put a hold on the case...The $59.7 million spent on settlements combined with the millions Penn State has paid in legal and consultant fees, plus the first $12 million toward the $60 million NCAA fine, pushes the cost of the Sandusky scandal to $110 million. When factoring in the remaining $48 million Penn State has to pay as part of the NCAA fine, the cost balloons to $158 million.

So far, $158 million...Victim 6 will probably get $3-4 million...All told...could easily reach $170-175 million before it's all settled.

Ah. The price of a winning football program, and bad reputation deferred... Read more here: http://www.centredaily.com/2013/10/28/3859303/penn-state-announces-597-million.html#storylink=cpy

You can’t even get the name of the town correct, so I’ll politely refrain from shredding your nonsensical posts.

Keep reading headlines and listening to, and believing the media. It’s done wonders for some in this country.

If anyone is still interested in the truth, John Ziegler will be presenting it on KDKA tonight at 10:30pm.

“Really it won’t come to that as it’s basically chump change to a university with a $110 million athletics budget and a $1.8 billion endowment. They’ll borrow and pay it off at low interest over 30 years or so. They’ll barely notice.”

That’s a shame. As Al Pacino in “The Scent of a Woman” remarked, “ they should have taken a flamethrower to the place.” And they should have taken every last dime from the “Paterno Crime Family.” How anyone could “revere” that place and it’s football team after all of this just goes to show you what college football does to people’s sensibilities.

...I know this is an old thread and nobody will be reading, but I just have to ask, are you still buying the junk this unhinged libertarian is pushing...the guy the Paternos themselves wrote off as a nut...? Your little bromance with him is really kind of weird...

What was “nonsensical”?

...don’t you know...everything that does not issue forth from the mouth of the joepa puppet in Florida is chock full of lies, innuendo, misstatements and propaganda, and must be corrected by an immediate dose of the ‘truth’ from his bosom buddy John Ziegler (you remember him, the guy Sarah Palin has such fond memories of, the guy who dances around a direct question from Matt Lauer whether Sandusky is guilty of anything)...Don Quixote Ziegler and his little puppet Sancho Panza joepa...

To get right to the point, John doesn’t think js is guilty of much - after spending 2 years investigating this. I know you don’t like that, but that is his opinion.

...oh, hello, that didn’t take long...what I like or don’t like matters not one iota...your little friend ought to investigate victim #1’s story, and then come back and say (in his ‘opinion’),that Jerry is as pure as the wind driven snow...that would be interesting...

...by the by, though I’m sure you haven’t done so, you ought to do a little reading yourself...victim 1’s book is out there in print, waiting for your perusal...it would be interesting to see if you come back on these threads bashing him...

Aaron Fisher also is on record - numerous times - saying that he in no way blames PSU for anything.

Aaron Fisher - as well as his Mother - also have reputations around Centre County as being notorious liars. Aaron also (for some reason) had a 13 year after the fact relationship with js right up until 2011. They saw an opportunity and cashed their check. The PSU b.o.t. gave them the pin number.
