San Francisco reaffirmed its strict position on gun control Tuesday when the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a bill banning the possession of large-capacity magazines.
The approval came weeks after Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a statewide proposal to ban the sale or possession of semiautomatic rifles capable of holding a detachable ammunition magazine.
Supervisor Malia Cohen's legislation expands on an existing San Francisco law making it illegal to sell firearms with magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. Such weapons were used in last year's elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., as well as the 2011 Arizona shooting that severely injured then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, killed six and injured 18 more.
"While not a panacea, this legislation provides law enforcement with more tools to continue to address gun violence and also continues to strengthen our city's strong stance on gun regulation," said Cohen, adding that she hopes it serves as a model for neighboring cities.

"Under the new regulations, people already possessing a large-capacity magazine will have 90 days to turn it in to police."
Or clinically insane for living in San Franciso in the first place....
San Francisco; I propose renaming to to New Sodom and Gomorrah.
Let the Frisco cops turn in their magazines FIRST.
I’m sure the folks who live in Oceanview, the Excelsior, Visitacion Valley, Hunters Point, Tenderloin, and Bayview are already line up waiting to turn in their now-illegal magazines.
Restricting the rights of women to choose which magazine to possess.
War on Women continues.
In 1982 the citizens of California voted to reject Prop 15 which would have banned the sale of handguns in Cali.
Since that day, the politicians have worked overtime to find ways around this vote, one bite at a time.
Can’t ban the handgun? Ban the magazine capacity
Ban the AW rifle.
Ban the lead ammo.
Ban ban BAN!
As San Francisco crime skyrockets.
Magazine bans like this are worse than useless:
These kinds of laws are worse than useless because they make the ill-informed or un-informed feel safer. In reality they are no safer, in fact in many ways they are less safe.
You can't get rid of firearms. Criminals and the insane will always have access to them, and will always commit criminal and insane acts. No passive defense is ever perfect. You can't stop murder, but you can stop mass murder. If you allow responsible, trained, private citizens to carry (open or concealed) capable firearms they will be on-scene and able to stop murder before it turns into mass murder. But that goes against the liberal agenda, so we will continue to see mass murders committed in allegedly "gun free" zones. I consider every single liberal and person in favor of "gun control" responsible and an accessory to these murders.
When GOD destroys san fruitcisco, I will applaud!
This preempts state law. They have been slapped in the face for these vain attempts in the past and, yet, continue to do so.
This will end up in court and they will lose, once again.
I’ll read any dang magazine I want, whether it be a handyman magazine, Reader’s Digest, or a gun magazine. They can durn try to stop me! /s
“This will end up in court and they will lose, once again.”
This is the only remotely cogent post on this thread! Aod sorry to one of the other “posters,” G-d isn’t going to be wiping SF off the face of the earth any time soon! I just imagine that in your “church” snake handling is a respected process. And to the other one who “never comes to CA unless he really has to,” good, we don’t miss you in the least. You both have the intellect of an amoeba!
I sometimes fly to CA to steal the gold from your ground, then I leave
to spend it in Texas or VA. Suckers
“You seem kinda proud to live there and to keep out people that like their 2A freedoms. Are you certain you are posting on the right forum”
Own a number of guns. Actually went to the range with my wife less than a week ago. If you live in any area outside the metropolitan parts of CA, your sheriff will be happy to issue you a CCW. Even in “liberal” Monterey County ( home to Leon Panetta) the sheriff is a 2A supporter. I suggest that rather that getting an uncontrollable verbal erection over certain parts of the country, including CA, you might consider posting what needs to be done about these abuses ( and I don’t mean clucking about “those poor people here or there.”). Sure, there are places where the 2A is definitely getting a better shake, but those places have their own social/political issues that should be of concern. And maybe, where you live, you have to CCW because you live amongst people who are criminals. Every day here on FR I read about the 6 to 12 home invasions/ muggings, etc. While surely in a state of 35 million people, these events happen here too, they seldom make it onto FR. Not so for Florida, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky and a few other states that claim to be conservative. So much to say, the good folks in these states should thank God for CCW because their lives depend on it. They don’t where I live, despite the fact that I think it’s a very good idea.
“You can have your Socialist fantasy land. Just don’t come crying because
you can’t defend yourself while being rapped and robbed, and didn’t fight
back the Social justice mobs at your doorstep.”
Actually, where I live there is very little “socialist fantacy land.” There hasn’t been a rape or a robbery for as long as I can remember and I’ve lived in the same town for 40 years. San Francisco has been sadly taken over by queers. Each time they overreach with a nutball gun law, the state slaps them down, and this “mag law’ will be no exception. We have plenty of weaponry when and if we need it. BTW, most of the state’s counties will issue CCW.
ANOTHER case of punishing lawa abiding citizens. Isn’t this a violation of the Second Amendment?
