The animals of which you speak are best described as ferals
When I and my cousins grew up in the SW, and my future in laws grew up in the Midwest, most of the males became good hunters.
Most of us were invited to hunt by the owners, ranchers, farmers and farmers in name because of the reputations of our older relatives/hunters.
Besides the normal safety requirements most of the land owners asked us to do one simple action. Shoot the stray animals we saw and to notify the property owners where we shot the strays, so they could bury them.
This was a system that worked well for the land owners and hunters. There was little if any need for an animal control officer outside the city limits.
Now we have feral dogs roaming cities like E St. Louis, Detroit and parts of LA county at night and day time.
Unfortunately, many of the so called humans in these areas could be labeled as feral.
