I assume America is one or two years away from becoming a total Stalinist-type state.

Damn skippy. Both parties are to blame for this crap. Everyone, and I mean everyone who has supported the Patriot Act is to blame for this. The Patriot Act opened the door to the NSA allowing them to do what ever the hell they want.

I don’t see it quite that way. I see that the obamists are damaging our intel capabilities to go after the baddies while using those same capabilities to go after their political enemies and our supposed allies (which are their political enemies).

Good point, for sure this administration has greatly abused intel for that reason but I believe that’s all the more reason for Republicans to put a stop to it.

No, I'd say about twenty years away. It happened back in the 1990s. We just didn't care.

The GOP has lost its way. It no longer has any ideology except self prservation for the leadership.

Once an intelligence service like the NSA becomes all powerful, it is hard to go back. Think Romania and Ceaușescu. Even a phase like "defund the NSA" will be flagged and my identity tracked. I understand this. It was nice knowing you, folks.

The roots of the financial system that this all led to belong to Woodrow Wilson’s era.

The funding for the intelligence agencies falls under the category of funding national defense, so Republicans in general want it and Democrats love the power it gives them. Both sides fund massive intrusions into our lives at a cost of over $100 billion, so when people talk about the national defense budget, they are including these massive black programs that illegally spy on Americans.

Just a grammar nit, but “trod” is past tense of “tread.” The usage in the quote is akin to saying “He gave his son permission to went on the road trip.”

There’s an old speech of Ollie’s from his ‘94 campaign that may still exist on TOWNHALL.com . He was quite the civil libertarian.
Then, he fell into the talk radio / FNC universe and spouted the Bushbot line for 15 years and I never heard him like that again. Until this. Good for him!

Well, yes, Col, you are correct. The GOP has abdicated their responsibilities. Clearly, the collection of private data from a business, without indicating the target of the search, based on probable cause, is unconstitutional.
I don’t understand why the GOP can’t make this simple argument. There is no due process.

Indeed! And I think he was pulling his punch by using passive voice, instead of saying that "(fill in appropriate names) have trodden on the Fourth Amendment."

At which time you’ll need weapons.
And I’m afraid the old bullet stuff just isn’t going to be enough.
