ObamaCare Widening Disconnect
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Saturday, November 2, 2013 | Salena Zito

SNIP

It is staggering to consider that, within a brisk walk of each other, so much money, power and influence is amassed — and even more staggering to consider the impact these have on our lives.

Those lives are not anecdotes but knee-weakening realities, as in the case of Genevieve Ward of Belle Vernon.

Her insurance company informed her last week that ObamaCare would force her out of her existing plan, leaving a sad choice: reduced benefits or increased costs.

The 84-year-old widow, whose husband worked at now-defunct Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, saw her payment for out-of-pocket expenses go from $3,400 to $6,700; the copay cost for a hospital stay went from zero to $200 a day.

“I think it's terrible. They shouldn't be canceling what I have,” she said. “They are raising my prices and taking away privileges.” She and her friends were so distraught that they skipped their weekly card club, she said.

Ward's letter contradicts President Obama's repeated promise that, if you like your doctor and your health-care plan, you could keep it, “Period.”

SNIP

Our relationship with government is in shambles, our feeling of disconnect with Washington at an historic level.

Yet the real problem is not a health-care website that doesn't work. The real problem is a president and a Washington culture which both believe it is OK to lie to get a bill passed.

There is no connection between such behavior and the values of most Americans beyond Washington, for whom getting what you want usually results from hard work, honest bargaining and a little compromise.

There was another regime that thought it was OK to lie. In fact, they knew they could get away with it because the populous often tells small ones....

Thomas Jefferson:

"We have the greatest opportunity the world has ever seen, as long as we remain honest -- which will be as long as we can keep the attention of our people alive. If they once become inattentive to public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors would all become wolves."

Jefferson and the other Founders believed that teaching the ideas of liberty to upcoming generations was essential to preparing them for being attentive guardians of their freedom. The same ideology which rules us today is the one that removed the teaching of the founding ideas from the curriculum of the schools: thus, an "inattentive" voter base.

When the "wolves" call the shots, "the People" become the prey!

So far today on Free Republic......

Washington Post
New York Times
Boston Globe
Pittsburgh Tribune

Obamacare and Obama......... under the bus

The Washington Post was all in. The others didn’t throw quite as hard

The precedent is set for everybody to jump on the bandwagon. Those involved have begun heavy duty CYA. The minions are now permitted to cover theirs. The blame goes up. It stops in the ether where there is no President, no reality.

She’s 84 so presumably on Medicare. I thought Obamacare would have basically no effect on Medicare recipients. Would someone enlighten me?

Not all older people made the 40-quarter eligibility for Medicare before they left the workforce.

There is a way around all of this. It is called the 10 dollar rule.

My insurance company pays whatever they pay and I give the doctor 10 dollars a month until its paid. I stay out of collections, the doctor gets paid by insurance and I am still fulfilling my obligation.

Eventually doctors are either going to leave the profession or something will have to be done to increase doctors compensation. Best way to do that is to cut their insurance premium and force tort laws to change. If we can add in buying insurance across state lines, Obamcare dies on the vine.

Could be her ‘medigap’ insurance.

BTW, it should be obvious now why Obama pushed out the employer mandate. If these same rules are applied to private company insurance, then another hundred million or so cancellations will happen in 2015. Obama didn’t want that prior to 2014 elections.

Are you saying you have to be SocSec eligible to get Medicare?
Isn’t the 40 q the SocSec requirement?

Medicare without a Supplemental Plan is 80/20.

What am I missing here?

If you are eligible for Social Security you are eligible for Medicare. If you are not eligible for SS then in a few instances you can get Medicare but not always. If not on SS then you have to apply and they determine if you are eligible. If you are on Social Security Disability you can get Medicare but there is a 2 year wait.

They, as retirees, have assets. They will be assessed to pay for the navigators, 16k new IRS agents, bureaucrats, and to subsidize the uninsured. She should have seen it coming.

I just did some checking. Medicare started in 1966 and it takes 40 quarters of paying in to get part A for free. For those over 65 who've lived in the US for at least five years, they can get part A but it isn't free and they can also get the other parts, which aren't free for anyone.

So there still are some people around who don't have medicare, because they went to private companies instead if they didn't have their 40 quarters paid in.

Medicare Part B and the Pharmaceutical Program are actually a bit pricey for people who don't use much medical care. I could see where a person might prefer a catastrophic policy with a high deductible instead.

Your president lied to you. He knew he couldn’t seize the power he so desperately wanted if you knew the truth.

The Senators and Representatives in his party lied to you as well.

And none of them care about your pain. They got what they wanted.

There were many people out here shouting the truth to you, but you didn’t listen. These people were dismissed as nuts. They were the ones warning you of the disaster being created by Barack Hussein Obama.

People will have their lives ruined. Some will lose their lives or the lives of their loved ones.

It’s going to get much worse. Much worse.
