He’s one of the Senate’s “youngsters.” He’s only 64. Sorry to hear this. Hope he makes another recovery because he’s one of the relatively good guys.

“Why oh why don’t men get those yearly checks? It’s a couple seconds of embarrassment and discomfort, plus a blood test. That’s it.”

Well my friend, welcome to “medical care” Obama style. Now the PSA prostate screening test has been eliminated as a Medicare covered expense. Despite the fact that I have had an elevated PSA in the past, my doctor says the tests are now on my nickel. These bastards are playing Russian Roulette with your life.

A common side effect is sexual dysfunction

Might be a good idea for politicians since none of them seem to be able to keep their pants zipped.

You ingrate.
Everybody knows the Death Panels are the key to fixing SocSec and Medicare funding.
When the kiddies whine about your early demise, the regime will offer up some student loan forgiveness chits.

Well I have been through the process, rising PSA and a biopsy and then a biopsy that determined I had an aggressive cancer. The choice of spreading cancer or prostate removal was no choice at all, that is if you want to live. I do not want die from spreading prostate cancer because it is a very painful way to go. I still get the PSA test because in my case there is the possibility that just one cancer cell may have escaped the prostate gland. The way I understand it is that not all cancers are aggressive and many remain in the prostate gland which may be ok except when it is aggressive. Then it is big trouble. The PSA test is really a must and surely has cut down the number of deaths since its inception.

The radiation treatments are really nothing except you must go in 5 days a week until completed. I didn’t have any surgery and neither (2) of the Urologists that pre checked me recommended it. The first was thinking freezing my prostate but the 2nd opinion Dr. didn’t recommend it so we went with the radiation. I just about decided to go to the University of Penn in Philadelphia for the Proton Beam radiation but it was to inconvenient so opted for local regular radiation. Proton Beam is suppose to be more direct with less collateral damage but also more expensive. In fact, I just read an article that insurance companies are starting to balk at paying for the Proton Beam treatments.
At my age, I’m glad I got all this in before Obamacare starts meddling with treatments.LOL

I don’t want to sound like I’m boasting but at the same time I went thru the radiation, in fact we had to put a hold on it for awhile, I had open heart surgery for an aortic valve replacement and one bypass. So, things can change quickly. I went 78 years without anything and then tshtf.lol
Just today I turned 83 and ,like my grand daughter said, I have all new parts now and I should live a good life for some time yet. I hope. I do feel great!

maybe because we’re not into getting a bunch of hemmorhoids from it? that and colonoscopies

you are speaking as a person designed to have something go into your body down in that area. we are not.

whynis the whole world fixated with putting things in mens’ asses, under all different pretexts?

Hemorrhoids don't come from a digital exam of your prostate. You are grossly misinformed if you believe that.

you are speaking as a person designed to have something go into your body down in that area. we are not.

Are you saying that women have vaginas, therefore men shouldn't have their prostate checked?

Get over thinking that you're being molested by your doctor. He doesn't like it any more than you do. I know several men whose lives have been saved by getting their prostates checked in time. They were well on their way to cancer.

My dad’s PSA was normal, everything was normal. He was diagnosed with an infection and sent home with antibiotics. A month later he was in debilitating pain. He is fighting for his life against an atypical prostate cancer. Sometimes the screening tests are wrong.

Your right, PSAs are not fool proof but, as far as I know, its the best we have at the present.

I am sorry to hear that. I pray for the best. But there are things that happen in this life that are not explainable.
The PSA test has saved lives and in my case it did. I had discomfort which sent me to the urologist and found out that the number was to high and I needed to watch it. If it had not been for the discomfort I would have not gone to a urologist until it was too late and I have been told that normally men do not have discomfort with a cancerous prostate. Discomfort usually means infection.

Thank you. Yes, he went in because the discomfort was bothering him. Nothing helped it though, and it progressed to bad pain. We are praying for a good outcome, we’ll know more in December when he is done with chemo and radiation. That you beat yours gives me even more hope. :)

I have heard to many horror stories about drs going up your a$$ looking for things to cut off etc... Then a few days later they are in the hospital about to die from an infection. My neighbors mother is going thru this right now.
