WASHINGTON – Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn has been diagnosed with a recurrence of prostate cancer and is seeking treatment.
A spokesman says Coburn, a survivor of a 2011 bout with the disease, is "undergoing further evaluation and treatment."
Coburn has battled colon cancer and melanoma in the past.

Prayers that he will get a complete recovery this time.
If he had 0dunga-care, they would give him weak palliatives and send him home do die writhing in agony.

A doctor I spoke to years ago said he thought men over 50 should get their prostate gland removed. He said they don’t need it and they tend towards cancer later on. I’ve always wondered about that. Sounded like a good idea.
A urologist recently told me that in 49 out of 50 cases prostate cancer does not spread beyond the prostate. There have been autopsies on men who have died with prostate cancer but not from prostate cancer. The doctor also said they don’t know if you are the 1 out of 50.

All men over 50 remove their prostate? A common side effect is sexual dysfunction so I doubt all amles over 50 would want to do that. Good idea if they could do it without sexual side effects.
As long as he caught it early, it’s very survivable.. My NHS GP found I had it, scheduled me for surgery at the end of that week followed by quick rounds of chemo and radiation, and no ill effects
May I suggest you investigate the following:
Fantastic “cure” rate.
He said it wouldn’t produce sexual side effects, just the inability to reproduce.
After 50, given the choice between that and death, it would be presented as an option, not a mandate.
This is a recurrence. If still in the prostate that is one thing, if it recurred elsewhere that is not good.

That’s not what I’ve read and heard over the years. I don’t beieve it for a minute. I think this makes even less sense than removing breasts as a preventative measure. At least with breast removal you can still have sex.
Why oh why don’t men get those yearly checks? It’s a couple seconds of embarrassment and discomfort, plus a blood test. That’s it.
You need to have regular PSA test. Prostate cancer contained in the prostate gland and found early is treatable. Once if gets outside the gland the problems increase. There are problems with the prostate gland beside cancer, such as infection and enlargement which cause a lot of discomfort but I don’t think any doctor would remove a person’s prostate gland without a diagnosis that concluded there was a dangerous cancer.
I have had all of those tests. My PSA took a jump and I went to urology for secondary inspection. The PSA came back down and I am not worried. The urologist was very good and he gave me the LATEST information as of last June. He told me that in 49 out of 50 cases the cancer does not spread beyond the prostate. If my PSA did not come down to normal I would have had a biopsy. If I ever do get a positive biopsy for prostate cancer I will think about it before I decide to get surgery. I hope to God that I have health insurance next year.
Very sad, but I have complete confidence in my neighbor to the north to elect a good solid conservative to take his place if need be.
About 5 Years ago my PSA started going up and it went to 6, a year after that it was 21 so I had a biopsy and 1/2 of my prostate was malignant and the other 1/2 was benign. I had 45 radiation treatments and on the 21st I have an appointment with my Oncologist, he told me on the last visit that he considers me cured, My PSA was <0.04 ng/mi last month when I went to the Urologist. In my case, what you have read and heard over the years is true.
So glad you are cured. you just had radiation and no surgery, right? The fact your PSA shot up from 6 to 21 in one year is a wakeup call to me at least. I did not know it would move so fast. Thanks for sharing that info. Many of us probably do not get that checked out often enough. Thanks again
