George Washington hosted a small convention at his Mount Vernon home in 1785. Subsequent events lead to the Federal convention of 1787.

It is no small symbolic matter that Indiana state Senator David Long petitioned other states to send delegates to Mount Vernon.

A good start. Is there a list available of state or regional organizations working toward this goal so we can add a shoulder to the wheel?

I have heard Levin push this idea on his show. I don’t think that there is a group alive today that could come anywhere close to our founders in intellectual terms. So, I think this is a very dangerous idea. Of course, I could think of somethings that could be improved and some of the amendments changed or repealed, but I am very skeptical that any changes that would result from a current day Constitutional Convention would actually increase our liberty or advance our unity as a nation. I think a much better idea would be to demand that the Constitution is followed, not altered.

Bad idea! Read Matt Bracken’s new book and see why. “Foreign Enemies and Traitors” is the title.... and, he is a Freeper!

For the most part, legislators in the states are much like the various municipality and county lobby organizations. They’re in favor of more tax hikes without votes, more fees and higher fees, closer government ties with business, fewer private property rights, more police powers, fewer constitutional rights of all, more immunities for government employees, environmentalism, etc.

The real solution is stopping the trend of moral bankruptcy. Maybe the default process will facilitate that.

More... Look at how many legislators are lawyers. Bar associations in the states also pushed hard for the divorce/cohabitation paradigm and for causing other problems we’re seeing now.

If you want to see better senators in Congress, for example, wait for the cuts against big spending and decreasing political power of troublemakers of all kinds. Assembly members of most of the states would only cause more trouble. Their interest is big government. For now, socialists have much money and time for political activities. In the near future, they won’t. Just wait for now.

Can a Convention to peacefully abolish the union be held? I`d support that, it`s goal: To allow any state or group of states to peacefully secede and form their own independent states with full status as sovereign nations.
