German Homeschoolers Forced to Send Kids to Public School, Now Blocked From Leaving the Country

Homeschoolers whose children were recently seized by the German government are now not allowed to emigrate to a country that allows homeschooling.

In August, the children of Dirk and Petra Wunderlich were seized at gunpoint by German officials because the Wunderlich's refused to send their children to the public school. In mid-September, the Wunderlichs were reunited with their children, but only after they promised to send their kids to public school.

The Wunderlichs then requested that they be allowed to leave the country so that they could go to a country that will allow them to homeschool. A judge told them that if they left before a December hearing on their case, they would be brought back to Germany and face criminal sanctions. Left with no other option, the Wunderlich children began attending public school on Oct. 28.

"What other choice did we have?" Dirk Wunderlich told the Home School Legal Defense Association. "They had our children. We feel ravaged by the government. We don't want our children in school but we have no choice - we can't leave and if we don't comply they will take our children away. We will make the best of it because we know if we tried to leave, the authorities would separate us and we might never see our children again or for a very long time."

The children appear to taking their new schooling in stride. But, one child complained that their teacher spends too much time explaining things and telling the other students to be quiet. Another Wunderlich kid regretted that he no longer had time to work on his personal learning projects.

Wunderlich said he hopes to be able to leave the country after next month's court hearing, or maybe earlier if an emergency request comes through,

But homeschooling is practically impossible for most people, leaving them few realistic options outside the government schools.

It is easier than many people think, particularly for younger children. Even if you only homeschool for a few years your children will benefit. And if you can't homeschool full time, at least supplement what your children learn at school with additional teaching at home.

Also, there are many support groups to help families get started.

True, but it’s difficult financially. And both spouses must agree. Government school is the default position.

How can they be dis-allowed from emigrating to another country when they don’t have border stops in the EU anymore requiring you to show a passport?

I did just a wee bit of research and found out that Austria (right next door to Germany for those of you in Rio Linda) allows homeschooling as long as the home education standards are on par or better than the government indoctrination standards.

What is to prevent them from taking a drive to Austria? Maybe they can do it after their court case in December.

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Normay et al allow it without much regulation, too.

Maybe some Christians can get together and smuggle them out.

In most states, home schooling is a legal option open to most parents. There are also lots of private school options that give parents control over their children’s education.

Let's call those "options" what they **really** are: Ransom! or Jizya!

Parents who can not afford the ransom ( homeschool expenses or private school tuition) are under POLICE THREAT to send their children into the government Marxist run indoctrination camps. If you don't believe me do a Google search on the words, "Police and truant".

Also, our nation's Marxist run indoctrination camps are like Obamacare's , "You can keep your insurance plan and your doctor." Government K-12 indoctrination camps are a price-fixed monopoly cartel that gives a service away for tuition-free. Due to the cartel and price-fixed practices of the K-12 Marxist indoctrination camps few private schools can compete. In many counties ( my is one) there are NO private schools. None!

Finally, no citizen should be under police threat to subsidize MARXIST driven godless socialism that is the very foundation upon which government K-12 indoctrination camp "schooling" is built! The entire EVIL system is a First Amendment and freedom of conscience ABOMINATION!

I checked you posting history to see if you might be a paid government school defending troll, but you don’t seem to be. Your posts are solidly conservative.

Honestly, I am exasperated.

Education is our nation’s MOST serious threat! Nearly every K-12 teacher in this nation was trained by godless Marxists in Marxist run colleges and universities. This is true for both private and government schooling. Even if a teacher is conservative in their worldview this Marxist training will have its influence. Then when K-12 is done the indoctrination continues on to the highest levels of university graduate school!

Your post is merely one example among thousands upon thousands of the lack of understanding among conservatives about the threat education will pose to our nation ( by way of the voting booth) in just a few short years.

Well, if anything, those children will test out at least two grades higher than their peers and will be much more self confident.

***

Right.

And, unless they’re placed at grade levels well beyond their ages, they will spend all day, every day bored out of their minds.

Poor things.
