He raised taxes?

What kind of recovery did he oversee with it? what kind of disaster did he inherit? What did he do for the military with it and scare the crap out of the USSR?

Explain exactly what he did to welcome amnesty.

It is understood that he trusted the dems’ promise to not allow amnesty.

from the Washington Post:

Reagan trusted that they would secure the border.

More importantly, what we have now is an out of control invasion by people who already have no respect for our laws, are way underestimated in magnitude and have no regard for the borders, language and culture.

To point to Reagan for that is like pointing to our founding fathers for not putting English in as an official language. They did not intend this, nor did Reagan.

So your detraction is intended to demoralize.

No one on this site has ever said Reagan was all seeing and perfect.

The subject is what did Cruz say to the ah Leno about Reagan and his conservative credentials. You are responding by pointing to this mistake of trusting liberals and implying Reagan, who stated he regretted trusting libs on this, and would never do it again, wanted this takeover.

Here’s the article.

Please don’t respond you are making me sick.
What did the 1986 immigration law do? Two big things. First, there was the “amnesty” bit. Any unauthorized immigrants who had already been living in the United States continuously since 1982 became eligible for temporary legal status, after paying a $185 fee and demonstrating “good moral character.” After 18 months, they could then become eligible for green cards, provided they learned to speak English.

Second, there was the enforcement bit. The law aimed to secure the U.S.-Mexico border against illegal crossings with new surveillance technology and a bigger staff. The bill also, for the first time in history, imposed penalties on businesses that knowingly hired or employed unauthorized immigrants.

Thanks SoConPubbie.
When host Jay Leno suggested Reagan would not fit in today's conservative movement, Cruz said, "I don't think that's right at all." ...Cruz pointed out that Reagan led a grassroots revolution at a time when Americans were saying Carter's polices were not working and wanted to go back to the Constitution and free market principles. "That same thing is true right now," Cruz told Leno. Cruz's assessment of Reagan fits in with what those like conservative talk radio host Mark Levin, who supported Reagan in 1976 and worked in his administration, and Craig Shirley, one of the most preeminent Reagan biographers, have said.
