Obama's stunning snub (Won't attend 150th anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg address)

GETTYSBURG - He almost was not asked to speak.

In October 1863, President Abraham Lincoln received the same plain envelope that was sent to hundreds of people, requesting attendance at a dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery here.

Col. Clark E. Carr, a confidant of several U.S. presidents and a member of the commission that organized the event, later admitted that commissioners scrambled to send a more personal invitation after Lincoln indicated he would attend.

Asking Lincoln to deliver a “few appropriate thoughts,” Carr said, was “an afterthought.”

You see, the dedication's real headliner was Edward Everett. A former secretary of State, U.S. senator, Massachusetts governor and Harvard president whose nationwide tour helped to save Mt. Vernon as a national shrine, Everett was considered the great orator of his time.

When Lincoln arrived, Gettysburg remained raw from the horrific battle that raged here for three days just five months earlier....

I’m almost glad he’s not going.

Exactly right.

Obviously the emancipation and resulting freedom of the slaves in American is nothing to celebrate for him.

Don't go Obama, we don't want you there to snub the memory of Lincoln's poetry at Gettysburg!

We should be thankful that Obama is snubbing Gettysburg.

He would be profaning a sacred site with his evil presence. It gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

Dallas would be appropriate - in some ways Obama is the 21st century version of Oswald. A little man, no redeeming value, who should have been insignificant in history - who ended up causing immeasurable harm to the country.

Some of those reenactors are very realistic.

It’s odd that he is not going since most Presidents usually worship Lincoln who was the founder of the modern centralization of power.

He doesn't know enough American history to understand it.

I think its good news. Now if we could just keep him away from Arlington Cemetary today I would be happy.

Barack Hussein Obama is not a friend of the the United States or the American people. His very presence at such an event, honoring an honorable man like Abraham Lincoln and his stirring historic speech, would be in bad taste - in addition to dissing America and its torches of freedom, maybe he knows he’s fooling fewer and fewer people about what his real goals are. It’s not that long ago that he derided Pennsylvanians for holding onto bibles and guns.

Is it so difficult for the President to acknowledge a white male Republican President did something right?

Snubbing this occasion - passive aggressive crap & disturbed 2-year old pouting conduct.

Wow..
