A Russian report quoted by Palestinian investigators on Friday said there was insufficient evidence to support the theory that Yasser Arafat died in 2004 by polonium poisoning.
The findings were far weaker than those of a Swiss laboratory announced with fanfare on Wednesday by Arafat's widow and Qatar-based al-Jazeera television.
Palestinians remained unfazed by the results - which dampen but don't definitely disprove the possibility of death by poisoning - and officials continue to blame arch foe Israel.
Samples were extracted from Arafat's corpse last November by Swiss, French and Russian experts after an al-Jazeera documentary revealed unusually high amounts of the deadly Polonium isotope on his clothes.
"The outcome of the comprehensive report on the levels of Polonium-210 and the development of his illness does not give sufficient evidence to support the decision that Polonium-210 caused acute radiation syndrome leading to death," said Dr. Abdullah Bashir, quoting the conclusions of the Russian report.
But Dr. Bashir said that both the Swiss and Russian reports found "large amounts" of the radioactive isotope in his remains.

As someone on FR wisely pointed out last week, as Po half life is only 138 days, there wouldn’t be anything left after 8 years.
As long as he’s still dead, it’s OK.
If, in fact, Arafat WAS poisoned, the circumstances would be much more favorable for someone within his own camp, or his very close coterie, to have carried out the deed. There was such a tight ring of security around Arafat, that no agent of Israel would have had the opportunity to get in that close.
However, I do not rule out Suha Arafat, his widow, as she had plenty of incentive, both to create a martyr, and to get rid of a detested spouse.
Good point, according to some very quick math - that’s 21.17 half-lives. So, the first half-life we are down to 50%, then 25%, then 12.5% and so on. However, please bear in mind that while the Po is gone, the next step down on the periodic table appears. Po goes down, the next isotope goes up. Looking and measuring in the PPM (parts per million) resolution - calculating how much Po was present 8 years ago is again simple math, when you add the two components together.

I thought one theory was that he was secretly gay and died of “lethal injection”.
When an isotope decays, it doesn’t vanish into thin air, though. There would still be byproducts.

In the Arab world, he wasn’t gay as he was a “pitcher” to boys. A willing “catcher” is gay in their minds.
Israel did it until they can prove that they didn’t. If anyone fails to prove that Israel did it, it’s because of a Jooo! conspiracy, and does not disprove anything./s
I would assume that the number of Mossad agents willing to bend over for Yasser and take it were few, and therefore the possibility of infiltrating his body guards were limited.
