Police in eastern Idaho say they're investigating after vandals defaced three Mormon churches in the small town of Chubbuck.
Gov. Butch Otter condemned the vandalism in a written statement released Sunday. Here is the governor's full statement:
"Defiling or defacing houses of worship of any faith or denomination is an attack not just on religious beliefs or even our law, but also on our culture and our values. It disturbs the sanctuaries of our spiritual well-being. These are not merely the acts of misguided individuals. They speak to a more fundamental disregard for sacred places, social order and the freedoms that generations of Americans have sacrificed to protect."
The Idaho State Journal reported the vandalism on the buildings belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was committed sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The graffiti included anti-LDS statements, vulgar language and drawings and a rendering of a devil figure.
LDS spokesman Larry Fisher says the graffiti was similar to that left on two LDS churches in Pocatello about 18 months ago....

Yep the Mormon “Jesus” is a mass murderer. While Jesus forgave those who were ACTUALLY crucifying Him, according to the Book of Mormon AFTER he paid for sin, he goes to the Americans and slaughters hundreds of thousands or more for their ‘unrighteousness’ (3 Ne 8-9)
And lets not forget, that Smith said it would be Mormonism or the sword.
Yep.
I am still trying to figure out why a governor even commented on a small communities graffiti.
My church (a Calvary Chapel) in CA is in the heart of gang territory and yes, it has been vandalized, more than once. Do we call the governor? Have a press release? Cry ‘persecution’? NO! We clean up the mess, repaint, and pray for them. Same thing that OTHER CHRISTIAN churches do.
Mormons make mountains out of molehills to support their ‘victim mentality’ which to them ‘proves’ ‘the CHURCH’ must be ‘true’. SMH.
Ex Mormons ya think?
My daughter’s former church was in Norwalk, and Saturdays were clean of graffiti day. I really don’t think they even called the mayor.
Maybe Idaho is really small.
I”m gonna bet disaffected but active LDS teenagers (and at least one is the son of a bishop/former bishop)
More like Mormons are just whiners. Remember in the Mormon mindset, these little things reinforce their belief that the church is ‘true’. The LDS haven’t faced real persecution in 150 years and even then they were partially at fault for their own troubles in IL, MO, NY, and OH.
They should start the investigations by 1st changing the name of their city.
BTW, I think they are going to find out it is one of their own.
Their edifices don’t look like churches to me.
Doesn’t mean they don’t consider them as such but, I don’t think church when I see them.
The temples are a different matter.
When is the Governor of Texas going to speak out vs. vandalism of Christian churches?
Or is it that Mormon-narrative pity parties only start and end with Mormon buildings? And thereby only they gain the attention of govs?
Also...given that Joseph Smith left in the middle of the night with other Mormons in Kirtland Ohio in the 1830s due to bank fraud he had committed...thereby abandoning the temple there...Mormons haven't always been good stewards of their buildings as it is.
Occasionally in Mormon history, the "vandals" have been internal...here, in this column, a Mormon columnist for the Ogden, Utah newspaper mentions how a newly appointed Mormon "apostle" -- Lyman Sherman -- was told by Joseph Smith to set their Kirtland printing office on fire as they were leaving town:
"...opposition leaders sought to use a printing office to manufacture anti-LDS tracts. That printing office was destroyed by fire to prevent that, and historians believe it was the ever-faithful Sherman who set the blaze to thwart Smiths enemies."
Source: Early Mormon Sherman died without ever knowing he was called to be an apostle
(Boy, those Mormon leaders sometimes go pretty far in their actions vs. who they perceive as anti-Mormonism)
Churches get graffiti-ed all the time, why is this governor talking about this ward graffiti?
Ward of the state?
momrons have wards not churches
I understand that. The article uses the term “church”.
I was using a play on words for humor.
Indeed. Unauthorized artwork by any uncontracted graffiti artist should be arrested, tried & convicted.
Besides, the Mormon Church has already contracted/completed artistic representations of devilish-linked pentagrams for its Nauvoo Temple. (No need to take away contracts from these sub-contractors ... like an interesting account about one such sub-contractor from a dozen years ago...followed by a link where you can see the photos yourself):
"Charles W. Allen explained how he was commissioned by the LDS Church to build the leaded glass stars that encircle the outside of the Nauvoo temple. The plan was to remain faithful to the original design, so Allen commenced to put together stars that would be placed in an inverted fashion. However, Allen noted that on May 8, 2001, he was approached by three men from the church. He writes, 'Ron Prince, Cory Karl and Keith Stepan were in the shop this morning to see how I was doing and to take a look at the colored glass in the star sash. They really liked what they saw. Keith asked me whether, if President Hinckley wanted to have the star pointed in an up position, that would be possible? I said yes, that all I had to do is to rotate the sash. He made a recorded note of that for his next meeting with President Hinckley. There is some concern by members of the Temple Committee that the upside down star would be interpreted as a Satanic symbol which some cults believe in today.'"

No, really? Satanic symbols in the Nauvoo temple eh? (And concerns raised by even members of the Mormon Nauvoo Temple Committee, eh?)

OH
I agree that the governor otter condemn vandalism
WTH? House of the Rising Sun..........what? That’s an opium den, why would mormons name the “temple’ that?
WOW These are really demonic!!
I don’t know that the symbols are occultic. They are definitely Manic.
I am a Mason and recognize the symbols.
The LDS was certainly inspired by Masonry and their endowment ceremony is an exact plagiarism of the 3° ceremony almost word for word.
The pillars, sun, moon, stars all have meaning in Masonry and LDS definitely co-opted them.
