Obama to talk economy during visit to Cleveland steel plant

By Joe Vardon

The Columbus Dispatch Tuesday November 12, 2013 5:46 AM

President Barack Obama won re-election in Ohio last year on the winds of the argument that the economy here and elsewhere was improving.

On Thursday, he’ll be back, but Democrats’ message on the economy has changed now that the goal is to defeat Republican Gov. John Kasich next fall.

Obama will visit the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Cleveland to “deliver remarks on the economy and the strength of American manufacturing,” said a White House official. How Obama’s talk will mesh with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald’s views on the economy remains to be seen.

Gee, no union payback here:

"PITTSBURGH (September 27) – President Barack Obama has announced the appointment of United Steelworkers (USW) International President Leo W. Gerard and 18 others to the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) Steering Committee “2.0.”

Union Gangsters: Leo Gerard November 11, 2011 By Matthew Vadum 12 Comments

Don’t miss FrontPage’s other Union Gangsters profiles featuring Craig Becker, Richard Trumka, Stephen Lerner, Andy Stern, Jimmy Hoffa Jr., John Sweeney and Daniel De Leon.

The United Steelworkers (USW) Marxist president Leo Gerard believes if Big Labor can’t get what it wants through the ballot box it’s time to start cracking skulls.

The Canadian-born Gerard loves a brawl. In 1999 he helped the violent anarchists protesting in Seattle block access to the World Trade Organization meetings. USW sent 1,400 goons to shut the talks down. Gerard’s agitation helped to push Algoma Steel of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, into bankruptcy in the 1990s.

USW president since 2001, Gerard wholeheartedly supports the labor-backed Occupy Wall Street movement – and wants it to become even more violent.

“You’re damn right Wall Street occupiers speak for us,” he recently told left-wing radio host Ed Schultz. “They do in Pittsburgh, they do in Chicago, they do in Oakland, they do in San Francisco, they do all across the country. And I think what we need is, we need more militancy.”

But occupying cities isn’t enough in the view of this man who began his career in labor activism at age 11 by handing out leaflets before a strike.

Gerard explained that the Left needs to start a “resistance” movement. “If Wall Street occupation doesn’t get the message, I think we’ve got to start blocking bridges and doing that kind of stuff,” he said.

That wind has passed.

The idiots don’t get that violence begets violence. If the keep ramping up the violence they’e going have to start dodging maltov cocktails. You don’t need guys like this in positions of power. They do more harm than good.

Considering all the things wrong with the economy....it’s remarkable that it functions as well as it does.

Obama will blame Bush, and tell people how good the Obama economy is, in spite of what Bush left him.

Ohioans are beyond stupid, they will lap it up and get tingles.

It’s absolutely incredible how much the media controls people in America. If the stupid public is told things are good, then they are good. The media wouldn’t lie.

This Indian company has bought up several old steel making plants, besides the Cleveland property.

LTV Steel was upriver from Lake Erie, reachable via Great Lakes iron ore carrier. Many years ago, I was general manager of a steamship fueling business that had operated a depot directly across from LTV. The place was literally soaked in oil and likely contibuted the river catching fire back decades ago.

n lesson in economics from Obama is like a lesson in modesty from Miley Cyrus.

Or a lesson in moderation from Chris Christy.

Or a lesson in Managing For Results from Kathleen Sebelious.

Or a lesson in ethics and personal responsibility from Hillary Clinton.
