Paul added that if the FDA was banning trans fats, the employees of the agency should be forced to get healthy themselves.

Lard based donuts were the best! I still remember Krispy Kreme donuts from the 1970’s. They don’t even taste the same now.
The best donuts I ever had was when I was a kid, it was called Ted’s Dutch-Made Donuts on 6th street in Irving TX

Hormel puts out a lard product, I think. I’ve never used it preferring my transy Crisco.
Spudnuts...growing up kids would sell these on Saturday mornings, from their bicycles, door to door. 25¢ per waxed paper bag...still warm. Nothing better to watch cartoons by. Mom and Dad would leave the quarter on the entry table, before going to bed Friday night...so we wouldn’t wake them Saturday morning.
Lard is unhealthy, but it still makes the best baked goods.
A local Italian bakery used lard in its bread for years. The loaves were huge, light and airy. Today the bakery uses some kind of healthy fat. Now the loaves are smaller, denser and just don’t taste right.
Leave it to government to ruin a good thing.
They will outlaw doughnuts with the wrong amount of the wrong kind of fats for regular folks, but law enforcement will still get access to the high capacity doughnuts.
