PITTSBURGH — The Roman Catholic bishop of Pittsburgh said that he will refuse to sign a document allowing a third-party insurer to provide preventative reproductive services for employees of a diocese-related charity even if it means that the nonprofit will have to pay fines.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Bishop David Zubik said Tuesday in federal court in Pittsburgh that he wouldn't be able to live with himself "knowing that we're contradicting what we believe."

The Pittsburgh and Erie dioceses are challenging a new health care mandate that requires religious employers to either provide contraceptive and abortion coverage or certify their objections on moral grounds so an insurance company can provide such coverage.

Wasn’t invisible to me. He used to turn up at Church fundraisers all over the place with nuns and priests falling over and kissing his rear.

Oh I’m sure he did venture into the safety of Church get togethers. He was NOT seen (my invisible comment) on news coverage of any Congressional committee he sat on it due to any Bill he authored.

He was a member of St Paul’s Cathedral so he would have been very chummy w/Zubiks predecessor, now Cardinal Wuerl. My guess you would agree that ALOT of CINOs attend St. Paul’s (as more a be seen place than a parish).

Doyle has already excommunicated himself per canon law. The bishop just needs to tell him publicly he should not present himself to receive Holy Communion if the man indeed does show up at Mass as he ought.
