New mother who killed baby in 'sudden explosion of violence' spared jail

Six-week old Amelia-Lilly died of a head injury following a “sudden explosion of violence” by Natasha Sultan, 21, who then went to sleep. Her partner, Jamie Curtis, found the baby unconscious in her cot when he returned from a night shift the next day.

Sultan, who has not told police how she killed her baby, was due to stand trial for murder on Monday but the prosecution accepted her guilty plea to the lesser charge of infanticide on the grounds she had suffered a “temporary unbalance” of her mind.

Sentencing Sultan on Tuesday Judge Jeremy Richardson said she was an “utterly broken woman” who would have to live with the burden that she had killed her daughter for the rest of her life.

He told her: “If you should ever have any other children, the social services department will plainly be involved and it may be that you are not permitted to bring up any future child given what has happened.”

Hull Crown Court had heard how Sultan’s GP had diagnosed post-natal depression and had prescribed anti-depressants which could have avoided the tragedy.

I guess it is now safe to kill your baby outside the womb.

I and my brothers and sisters probably should thank God every day for the wonderful Mother we had. Sometimes I think God created her just to be a Mother.

lesbians are known as a group to be more violent towards kids in their care, esp. boys.

Well it’s the UK, so the full sentence for murder would be what, 180 days?

Veracity of your comment aside, if you are referring to this article, you may actually want to read it. The ‘partner’, Jamie Curtis, is refered to as ‘he’ and ‘Mr.’ in the article.

Okay, but she wasn't a lesbian and her baby wasn't a boy.

...

Sentencing Sultan to a three-year supervision order, and banning her from working with children, Judge Richardson said Sultan killed Amelia-Lilly by “deliberately impacting her head on a hard surface”.

Words fail. Three years probation?

Yeah, she was so broken up about it that she went straight to bed. Didn't even have a smoke first.

I heard something on the radio once like historians have found that “civilizations die out when they start doing really strange stupid things (not from being conquered)”. Maybe it was on Dennis Prager? Wish I knew the source. Obviously, the UK is about there (and a few more years we will be too).

If her BF had kiddieporn on his computer, he’d have gotten 5-10 years.

I liked the other side of the looking glass better.

You must be thinking of American-style sentences. I doubt most people found with CP on their computers in Britain would actually go to jail, they would likely get probation.
