He also says it did not sound like knocking, that the sound was more intense.

I haven’t either, so I’m making the assumption that if he shot through the door, or if the victim (that is what I see her as right now) opened it, that would have been reported, therefore he opened it. Also, this was around 4:30 AM - very unlikely it was unlocked.
And it doesn’t matter if it was knocking or something louder, IMO. It’s not a situation that rightly called for the application of lethal force. And we have only his word for the claim it was louder than knocking. If she was kicking the door or hammering on it with a rock or something, there will be evidence of that which will come out, but it doesn’t change things.
