Obama will offer health insurance cancellation fix today: Democratic anger building

WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama will offer a fix for people facing health insurance policy cancellations as a result of his Obamacare health care law today at 11:35 a.m. ET.

Earlier Thursday, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi D-Calif., Obama will take action for people whose health insurance policies were cancelled as a result of his Obamacare health care law while House Democrats are also working on a plan.

“The president will offer a proposal today is my understanding and we have our own proposal which we think is really good. But we’ll see. And it has to be done in the next little period, Pelosi said, referring to cancellations kicking in on Jan. 1.

Speaking at The Atlantic Ideas forum, Pelosi said, “So again, stay tuned. It could be an administrative fix, it could be a legislative fix. I would prefer an administrative fix because it could be done much more quickly without any accompanying agendas.”

Pelosi’s comments come as Congressional Democrats—in particular those with big 2014 contests—are angry at the Obama White House, with cancellations of health insurance policies far more a political threat than the botched Obamacare website and the resulting initial low enrollments.

Fixed.

They sold out the American people, the majority of whom were screaming not to do this. They can rot for all I care.

You have nicely summarized WHY I fear the GOPe taking out the Tea Party at the knees.

Americans are fed-up with the crony capitalist abuse. And those feelings will seek a political expression.

If we don't elect the Tea Party to turn us back towards true free market principles, that frustration will result in the election of someone like Elizabeth Warren. People are becoming more frustrated, and will eventually just latch on to the first candidate who promises to punish the offenders.

This bill is probably the largest legislative disaster for the american public since FDR or LBJ. The impact is more immediate however and hopefully will derail the socialist agenda for some time..if the GOP just doesn’t help them patch the sinking ship. They built this baby and let them figure out how to keep it alive..or kill it.

They won’t get a fix through Congress, and an executive order won’t work. So, they’re screwed :)

Why would anyone believe what O will say at 11:35, or any other time, for that matter.

Lies for cover, I’d expect.

And if so, do they dare tell him to pound sand?

Or does he already have their assurances?

Is that not the Upton plan, reviving the cancelled policies? That will kill Obamacare, because no one will leave those policies to buy its overpriced, overstuffed, high-deductible garbage. The only signers will be those who will get it for “free” or have severe pre-existing conditions.

As for “insurance companies will be required to tell people renewing cancelled plans of alt options & benefits they’ll lose”, all that will bring are sighs of relief.

Over/under on how many times he says the word “folks”. I’ll say four, and take the over.

I meant that the costs would be passed on...

Well that's just silly. President Obama has told us that we would each save $2,500 on insurance under his program. It was in all the papers so it must be true.

Won't those plans now have to be re-approved by Insurance Commissions in all 50 states? Can't be done.

Trey Gowdy saying he’ll say you can now keep your insurance. Also dims will not vote for Upton’s bill and will have a “better” plan.

Those cancelled policies that may be revived will still have much higher premiums. The insurance companies must provide the increased benefits under the law, such as free preventative care and lower caps on out-of-pocket costs. They will also have to cover pre-existing conditions and accept everyone without underwriting.

When Blue Cross sent my cancellation letter in September, they offered me a comparable plan at twice the premium. It had some extra bells and whistles mandated under Obamacare. None of their “in house” plans are cheap. They have to provide an increased level of care under the law and also stay in business. Obama can’t change that at the stroke of a pen.
He can’t order Blue Cross to reinstate my plan at the lower premium I enjoyed. He simply can’t do that.
